How to stop rear quarter panels flapping after "Greg Davis" style trimming.

It's not a GD bumper. I made it all myself. Yes, I added the tube in the fender well. I know how GD uses that flap of metal to support the forward edge, but I'm not satisfied with that design.

I checked it out, and it looks like I can shoot a rivet from the inside, and have it come out behind the fender flare.

Well, problem solved. There is one small location where the outer panel contacts the inner fender liner. I shot a rivet through the two, and the rivet is hidden behind the fender flare. Can't see anything. The location is right at the bottom rear edge of the inner liner. I don't think I could get a picture of it, it's fairly obvious.

I tried shooting a second rivet higher up, but where I chose didn't meet closely enough. A longer grip length rivet may be able to work, but not the shorty I used.

Playing with it more, I really don't think anything used to stiffen the bottom edge would have helped much. The ENTIRE panel was flexing, not just the bottom edge.

Now it's solid. Well, as solid as a pop rivet can be. But it won't flap in the wind anymore, at least not short term.

From what I can see of it, nice bumper! I can't tell from that angle, but it looks like you managed to solve the awkward line problem many aftermarket rear bumpers have on top of the corners?

A rivet does sound like the most permanent solution. I'll look into it. I was mostly curious, what's the "official" thing that people do with a Greg Davis bumper?

The truck does look SO much better with the back end clipped like this, I love it. It looks a lot more like a serious off-road vehicle now, and less like a school bus.

meh, still looks like an offroad school bus to me.

Thanks. I haven't posted a full picture of it lately because I'm not quite done yet. Was waiting to get the swing-away part finished, which I hope to paint today. I do like what I did with the corner finishers, but it was a lot of work. The whole bumper, especially the corner finishers and the frame brackets just isn't commercially viable so, I can't fault others from keeping the plastic finishers.
