how "weak" are the axles in a 92 SR?

I came across a 92 SR today and was curious how weak the axles really are compared to the later models? The 4.88's would be nice but would it be a downgrade and are the ABS systems the same 92-00 as far as being compatible?

Rear 9". Think like Ford 9". Can swap to the 9.5" easily. Front pretty sure its an 8" like the '95 and up SR. Are you thinking swapping into your '98? I'd go a different route. 4.9 9.5"and 8" are available from Sports.... Get rid of CAD

I'm not sure about how they were in the states, but the early models here had a bit of an issue with the axle housings cracking at the weld between the tube and the diff housing, I think it was rectified in 93. They wouldn't crack suddenly, they'd weep fluid for a while first

The 92 axle is as strong as you'll ever need, especially for the 40HP :coffeedrink: The axle tube issue ended with the Gen 1 I believe, I think our models are off a year.

Looking for that thing i just had in my hand...
The ABS systems are different, the 9" axle is plenty strong BUT i'd just stick to the bigger axles and go 4.90's because it's easy and slightly better.
