I do a lot of fishing/camping...and i want a good place to sleep besides the hard ground. I will be using a air mattress in the bed of my pickup, but I need shelter over the head! Being 19, and in collehe..$$ is an issue for me. What do you guys think of something like this? http://www.autoanything.com/truck-tents/60A2944A0A0.aspx
Its cheap, and i figure if I take good care of it i can get 2-3 years use of it. Comments?

good if you want to stay put in same place for a couple nights. I've taken my 3 person backpack tent and place in the bed...its virtually the same thing.

hmmm

I have a friend with a tentcot. Sure it's a double wide 2 person model, but the thing weighs ~75 lbs., and is 4 by 4 feet when folded up. Many people who camp out on the beach down here swear by them, but it seems like a lot to carry around with you.

I have to ask, since you're using the mattress to get off the ground anyway, is it important to be in the truck bed? Seems like a lot of money compared to a comparable setup for the ground.

sometimes...theres just no room on the ground for a tent. I wheel/camp in the pine barrens. Once you factor in 3 other rigs, and they ALL have tents on the ground, plus a fire...you run out of room fast. Be nice to just have it up in the bed, save room for myself any everyone else.

That's cool, just wanted to ask. If it's worth the extra coin for that, it looks nice! I don't see why that should not last many trips, and at least it will always be clean! :)

Jersey?

I think its a good piece of gear and will do what its designed for. I say go for it. The only drawback is the fact that you have to UNLOAD everything in the bed to make room for "camp" and then reload everything when its time to move on...

Yea I live in NJ. I agree about unloading and reloading. But really...when I go over night camping all I take is the cooler, some fishnig stuff, sleepingbags and recovery gear for wheeling. Most if not all of my recovery gear for wheelin goes in the truck, and all the other stuff gets pulled out of the bed anyway. The ONLY issue, is i have my hIGHLIFT mounted on the inside of the tailgate. That coul cause problems with the inbed tent
