AWESOME build! well done man, and congrats on getting to go out! lol.. always rewarding
Thanks!
How did the cam tie downs hold up. Did they back off at all or pop open on the rough roads.
Actually they were great. I thought with all the bouncing that the cabin would have shifted but all the latches stayed in place and the cabin doesn't look like it moved at all. Very happy I went that route

Very cool trailer. I really like your choice of material. I’m not sure we could get that down here in Texas? Never seen that kind of garage door here.

Or maybe we could! It’s to insulate against heat loss, that goes both ways! We have our fair share of heat!

You absolutely could find insulated panels in Texas. most commercial panels would be insulated as it adds to the structural rigidity. If I were to build again, I would use clopay 3717 panels for the whole camper ( only used them for the floor) and clopay has a distribution centre in Houston so one of the door companies in Texas is bound to supply that brand.

Ordered a maxxfan a couple of weeks ago and it arrived yesterday.
Not an overly exciting install. Used butyl tape on the bottom of the exterior trim ring. I plasti dipped the exterior trim ring in case I decide to paint the rain cover a darker colour.

I got a trip planned for this coming weekend so I will get to test out the airflow.
No battery at the moment so the fan won't be running but we have a trip planned for Idaho in last august and the wife plans to sleep in the trailer so I will have to have the fan running by then.

Looks good man, the roof vent will help loads.

When I installed mine, I read and read about them and it was a common theme that anyone who maybe a little worried about the vent leaking (through screw holes or from shrunk up butyl tape) to install some ExternaBond RV roof repair, like this: http://a.co/9tvBSwk

I used it on mine for cheap insurance of the only hole in the roof I have. Just a thought.

Keep up the good work!

Well I’m back at’er.
I’ve got the Idaho trip in less than two weeks and yesterday it was 40 C-104 f during the day and I don’t imagine it cooled off enough to sleep comfortably at night so I have to get this fan running- more importantly don’t want to listen to my wife complain for 4 days.

I picked up a couple of Trojan GC2 batteries this moring.
The toughest part was trying to figure out how to configure all the components.
Decided on putting the batteries end to end to give the dog as much space As possible on the floor.
Managed to get the batteries nice and secure with a simple design

I bought a 35 amp RV battery charger and rigged up some mounting brackets

I’m trying to keep everything looking as neat as possible so I’ve mounted the 30 amp curcuit breaker for the battery behind the charger.

I will be runing my lights and fan to a blue sea fuse panel.
Also have plug in port that I’ll have to cut a hole into the wall for. Im thinking I will also try to hide that behind the charger.
Tomorrow I’m hoping to get the charger brackets mounted to the wall and the hole for the plug cut as well as mounting the fuse panel but well see How the day goes.

Between yesterday and today after work I managed to get the fan running.

I was planning to do all the wiring surface mount but now having seen it I really don’t like how it’s looks.

I’m thinking I may try using some 1/2” EMT. My bending skills suck so if I can’t get it with two or three sticks I may just ask one of the sparky’s At work to help me out.
But, the fan is running so that can wait for now. Other than a good clean, the trailer is good to go for Idaho.
Now to turn some attention to my truck. Have to flush the coolant, change the oil, replace the front brake pad s and rotate the tires so that will pretty much take the rest of my time up until the trip.

Clean off the adhesive on the back of them and use some 3m VHB tape. They'll stay up.
I have no doubt but since I don’t want to do surface mounting anyways I might as well do the EMT right away. Cleaning off the 3M would be a treat though haha

I think I might have super powers or something...

9A9F55E5-DF56-46B8-822E-5F27726EA7BD.jpegOn Friday I talked to one of my sparky about bending pipe. Then also watched a YouTube video on it. Obviously something clicked because I was able to bend that run with only one pipe.
Was pretty jazzed so I decided to mount some boxes around my flood lights and run some more pipe. ADE34F52-2331-4CBE-B0B1-491058876340.jpeg

I am very happy with how it looks- I should have gone this route to begin with.
Not going to wire the exterior lights until later though.
I am also thinking I would like to pick up an exterior mount led porch light so I will likely wire it all at that point.

Just over a year... ho-lay
Though the camper is functional, I haven't done much to is since.
I’ve spent about 40 nights in it so far.

Looking back:
-The good:
The shell is water tight, no leaks
Ventilation with the max fan is amazingly.
It’s a good size for my needs
-The bad:
Paint. Both on the trailer frame and the camper.
The trailer frame; I was aware that the paint was no good ( Cloverdale paints sold me incompatible products)
The camper-I purchased a Bedliner type product ( also from cloverdale paints) and since spraying it it has started cracking and peeling.
Linex is flexible and bonds to its self. The product I was sold has little flexibility and does not bond to its self.
Despite the “Bedliner” cracking and peeling, the camper has remained water tight.

As far as the paint goes, looking back I would do two things differently.
Powder coat the trailer frame, and cough up the money to have the camper sprayed with Linex.

Recently I have started to work on the camper.
I acquired a propex heater off kijiji out of Toronto.
I decided to mount the propane tank on the tounge of the trailer and the Spare tire was in the way.

I wanted the propane tank tight to the camper shell. I moved the spare tire mount ahead 10” and added 16” in height so I could still run my jack up And down.

You can see the peeling in these photos

This coming weekend I’m hoping to instal the heater and wire It. Still need to build some sort of cabinet around the batteries that I can wire my switches into. Just need the motivation...

From my hunting trip back in September

I recently purchased a Coleman canopy. Was originally planning on a quick deploy awning but the Coleman was much cheaper. Will try and upload some photos of my current set up tomorrow

Got to thinking last night. The plate with the ring for the propane tank doesn’t really need to Be mounted on unistrut. It’s just extra weight and serves no purpose.
Decided to remove unistrut and fill the holes with weld. Then mounted the plate flush on the frame.

Still looking for options on how to fasten the propane tank. Was considering using a ratchet strap, some turn buckles with hooks or possibly running a threaded rod through the ring on the base of the tank.
Suggestions?
