Hydraulic Jacks

I've got a Chevrolet 2500HD Crew Cab with a BigFoot truck camper on the back. The truck weighs in at about 7,500 pounds with maybe 500 pounds of gear in the rear seat, me and the dog another 250 pounds.........a total of 8,250 for the truck. The camper weighs in unloaded at about 2,200 pounds and I'd guess that I've got at least another 500 to 1,000 pounds of stuff loaded in it. I'm also pulling my Jeep, but I don't think it adds weight since I'm flat towing it. So, what size hydraulic jack would you suggest ?

6 ton or so. It's more an issue of what jack will fit underneath the jack point easily and hopefully raise high enough. For that reason I often get a somewhat larger jack than just weight would indicate.

BTW, your Jeep's tongue weight is part of what you'd have to lift: I broke a hydraulic jack trying to change a tire on a pickup towing a loaded 3/4 ton military trailer...should have disconnected the trailer.

Jeep being flat towed won't have any tongue weight. (unless you need to jack the truck up enough to start lifting the Jeep:Wow1:)

You'll only be lifting one corner at a time, or in the worst case, one side.

A 6 ton will be more than adequate, and they make a low profile hydraulic bottle jack.

These fit nicely under the axle tube even with a completely flat tire.

Well, I'm guessing that you and the dog won't be in the truck when you're jacking it up, so you can subtract that 250 lbs. :Wow1:
