Hyundai Galloper II

cyclist

Observer
I am in Santiago Chile and looking for an affordable SUV to drive around south america. I have run across a number of Hyundai Gallopers for sale, often with a desirable diesel (2.5L intercooled and turboed) and manual combination. According to wikipedia this is a Hyundai build 1st gen montero, but might have a hyundai motor in it. I drove one and it seemed well put together and comfy, if not super fast. Any thoughts on general reliability or likelyhood of parts availability in south america?
thanks

It is generally a Montero drivetrain. A friend mechanic in Madrid, Spain said that they would be a great buy, but unfortunately he said the quality of the welds were very bad. Welds would separate on normal street driven ones.
