I broke my LR3

OK, after a week in Colorado I broke the roof glass on the LR3. Anyone every break this before and have any idea how much it costs to repair as I have not found the part online yet.

Also noticed another problem on the 10 hour drive home in 95 degree heat. When I use the AC the vents in the front do not blow very hard, even if I set the fan to high. It makes a lot of noise, but very little air comes out and it's not the coldest air. I noticed that the roof vents for the back seats were blowing hard and very cold like I would expect. Any ideas on what could be causing the front vents to not work well but the back vents to be fine?

Check your car insurance and see if you have a glass policy - its expensive.

I think the front and rear AC are two independent systems.

Mine was covered under glass policy. I had to push to allow lr dealer to do it since it's not a normal install.

Yeah I figured if it was really expensive that it should be covered like a windshield would be. It's not like its a part that broke from wear, it's actual damage to the vehicle.

AH....2 different systems would explain the lack of cold in the front. Now I just need to figure the lack of air flow for front.

Curious as to what you think busted the roof glass? Do you have a roof rack or rails? Did it get hit by a tree or anything?

Most likely blower motor, it's in passenger footwell area, IIRC it was a common issue on LR3, I had mine replaced under warranty.

Dealers don't do it.. They sub it out try LPAG, you can order it online, it's expensive. These commonly break for no reason in particular. Maybe it is heat, body stress.. I'm not sure I know a guy if you can't sort it out.

Sounds like your cabin air filter might be plugged up, take it out inspect, shake it off and see what happens.

When I did mine, I didn't try getting insurance to cover it. I suspect there was something wrong with it from the beginning it "creaked" and the crack in the 2nd row view window just got bigger and bigger, and bigger until I finally changed it out.

I've had a broken rear glass roof for over a year now. I don't know exactly when it happened as I never put people in the rear, but I noticed it after returning from a trip to Sedona last spring. There was an obvious chip that started it, so I'm guessing a rock hit (somehow) and it's slowly spread from that point ever since. It runs the full width of the glass now as well as reaching forward a good way. I figure I'll eventually have to turn it in on the insurance and have it replaced, but since it doesn't leak and isn't visible it's sort of 'out of sight, out of mind'. Maybe I'll look into it this fall or winter, but I'm in no rush.

Comprehensive insurance will help with the roof. I never had a problem with mine, but I know a guy who's busted two of them. Not sure why or how. As for the AC, sounds like the control damper behind the glove box is stuck. Happened to me once. PIA to fix, I tore mine apart, but needed the dealer to put it back together :)

well there are 3 separate cracks all leading back to the black antenna box. My guess is something hit that and made small cracks, and then while off roading the flexing of the vehicle caused the cracks to expand? Logically that seems plausible, but then again I could be full of it. :}

This is not always the case. The tech that works on mine at the dealership did mine and they would not sub it.

I am hoping to keep my roof glass protected with flooring.

I've been thinking I'll add flooring to my rack as well just to make walking around up there easier. The only downside is it will limit the flexibility to tie stuff down wherever so I'll have to add U-bolts for my tie-downs in fixed positions. It will however be easier to put small or irregular shaped items like my saw up there. Just have to come up with a solid load arrangement. Since I'll have to remove the rack to have the glass replaced that seems like a good time to put in the flooring.

You can cut holes in the chicken coop flooring with a jigsaw. Then you can run ratchet straps as usual.
