About 2 years ago, when i worked in whole sale parts we were cleaning up the warehouse and came across a box of amp research drop mounts and motors...no one knew what they were, so i took them home. I probably still have them

thought I would bump this up.
Im now building a custom Pop Top roof for my van so I can stand up. similar to a sportsmobile but lower sleeker profile.

I bought the entire original metal roof outa a 1998 E 350 from the wreckers for $300 this is a compleat metal roof. I want the new roof to only sit maby 2 inchs higher than my original roof when down but raise like 28 inchs.
Going to use 12 volt actuators on the metal roof. I got the excess metal all removed from the original roof below the gutter my guess is the entire roof only weighs 150 lbs now still holds its shape perfect to.
I decided to use and existing roof as I want a clean profile not a boxy looking roof on there. the new roof curves and conforms to the original van roof perfect.
I will make the opening like 4ft x 10 ft with a steel frame and the 12 volt actuators similar idea the way Colorado camper vans does there power roof.
guess I should start a new thred.
I will post pics as I go.
theres no one up here that does pop top roofs or I would just pay and have one installed.
I figger I can keep my material costs under $1000
by the way my amp research steps still work perfect never failed once to open.

I can't wait to see how the pop top turns out . I'm thinking of something similar

Heres a picture of the cut out roof (before I removed all the extra metal ), everything below the gutter has to go ! its the hardest part I think.
I have all my frame pieces ready to pick up from the metal shop all cut out to the curve of the roof. I will start a new thred just about the pop top as I go. I think anyone could do this for less than $1000 in parts if even that much. the steel was like $140 the Acuators will be like $200 the cloth im using is really nice quality nylon type camo material I got from a brand new 10x 10 outdoor building. the ones you buy to put ATVs in ect. just feels like decent material to me its waterproof to. I will sew in screen windows just like the fancy pop tops have. I think it will look better than the fiberglass ones you see and mine will lift with a remote from 20 feet away if I want. that's the plan anyway :)
