I almost pay off my 06 4x4 4runner. It has been a perfect 4runner for me and my kids. We had great times/adventures with it. I went Ih8mud and saw awesome Landcruisers (100 and 200):Wow1:. Now I want one.

I thought that I will use my 4runner until it down the ground. Arrhh...
Ih8mud is a great site.

Not to knock the Land Cruisers (I like them too), but your 06 Runner is a great platform, very under appreciated by the masses (I say with plenty of first hand knowledge and bias). I would buy another one in a minute, preferably with a V8 and the excellent 5-sp auto :)

I love it here and there too. I've learned quite a bit. I like the 4Runners in concept, they've always been just a bit too small for me. The new one looks good to me (had a chance to see a new SR5 at the local dealer). I just prefer the size of the LC.

I concur with CSG: Interior size being my biggest obstacle with a 4R. Having said that Redline's 4R is uber cool!

The one thing that's a bit of a wear overall with a 100 and WAY worse for a 200 is the TOTAL lack of aftermarket anything for them. Christo (as in Christo Slee of Slee Offroad) is just about ready to release his new front bumper for the 100/LX470's. The lack of any real front suspension goodies or even any real potential for front end mods along with a 2" max front lift makes it kinda challenging.

It seems there are more front suspension options for the 4R.

Christo and his chief right hand man are in the middle of SAS'n a nice 100 for a guy. Since we can't get a 105 with 1HD-FTE here a SAS'd 100 is right at the top of my "list".

Yeah, clicking on IH8MUD proved to be one of the costly clicks in my life. I ended up obsessing, then purchasing a vehicle from the classified there and then continuing to overhaul and mod my FZJ80 all due to that site ( and some encouragement from my friends here).
I don't know whether I should shout their name from the roof tops or curse them.
The best site in the world if you are into Cruisers, no doubt.
All that said, don't sell your 4Runner short. It is a GREAT truck and I would have picked one up if I could have afforded it.

The 100 and 200 series I don't think are going to be as maintenance free as the earlier models of Land Cruisers. I like my solid front axles and leaf springs. Maybe they don't ride like a Cadillac but if I wanted a Cadillac ride I'd have bought a Cadillac!

I have a BJ60 (like the US FJ60) and an FJ55. Both have the 3B diesel and I wouldn't hesitate for a moment to take either one across the continent or to Central America.

I have little doubt from what I see of my new-to-me LX470, it will cost more to maintain than an 80 series rig. All sorts of buttons to push but what happens when the other end says, NO! Much more complex up and down the board but it's a trade-off I suppose.

If this one doesn't work for me after a couple years, I could see selling it for an older 80 series rig. I'd looked for them but most around here were beyond my abilities (which range from slim to none) mechanically speaking.

That's a fact Spresso, mostly because the 4th Gen 4Runner, FJC, and 05+ Tacoma are all very similar.

net4n6,

I have to agree with you that Mud rocks for LC's. Expo and Mud's websites have been a great tool in helping me build my LC 200. ARB / Slee and IPOR have been good for aftermarket parts.

I disagree on your first statement even though at one time I felt the same. I have owned and still own some very well built Land Cruisers and I must say the most trouble free land Cruiser I have owned to date has been our '99 100 series. The door lock motors have gone bad ($6 and some time to replace) and it is the ONLY problem I have experienced in 5+ years not even a flat tire.

Not factual...but that's OK because you said "I don't think".

The 100 requires less frequent maintenance compared to the 80-series. Reliability was also improved and is factual.

It would not surprise me to see the 200 surpass the 100 as well. Technology is more advanced and it finds its way into the newer vehicles.

You know...one vehicle's record doesn't speak much...but considering I bought my 100 new, lifted it and armored it and wheeled it before it was 6-months old...I'm amazed...friggin' amazed that it's got 150K on it and I've never seen a CEL. Crazy. I think tonight I'll leave the gas cap loose so I get a light this week. :sombrero:

All fine when you can bring it into a dealer who has a scope and all the rest of that stuff on a regular basis but when you're out in the middle of nowhere and an electric sensor dies and your truck along with it.....

I've seen the "reliable" electronically controlled vehicles laid up for months in Guatemala because the mechanic either doesn't have a scope or doesn't know how to use it (lots of those while I lived in Guatemala). I've read about the "reliable" electronically controlled vehicles stuck in the middle of someones trip for months because a pointless sensor quit (I can't find the link but it was an Aussie couple with a Ford Sportsmobile)! Thanks, but I'll stick with "reliable, fix it on the side of the road if necessary with a hammer and cold chisel" vehicle instead of the technologically complex vehicle but hey, that's just me!

I'm pushing 350,000 miles and my CEL has never come on either (probably 'cause I don't have one :sombrero:)!

We're not talking Land Rovers...we're talking Land Cruisers.

And with 100-series Land Cruisers...the scenario you are describing above is not happening and they have been around for 10-years now.
