The more relevant issue is finding a vehicle that is in good condition. There are many 100 series available in fine condition and fewer and fewer 80 series around that are even worth looking at.

I miss my 100 series and it was an awesome machine. Perhaps it would not be the ideal machine for 3rd world travel, but, frankly, I cannot think of a finer machine for exploring North America.

Wow! I didn't remember that you sold your 100. I bet you do miss it!

To the OP, your title "I H8 IH8MUD" cracks me up! That is funny! MUD rocks! It's by far the best LC only website out there! FWIW - Don't drive a LC if you are even tempted by them...you will buy one! My brother in law has an 05 4Runner. Totally stock, but very nice rig. I've driven it many times. However...it is no LC! I drove a mildly modded 100 series 100K on and off the road over the last 5 years. Best vehicle I've ever owned! Had to sell it recently to support by business due to the crappy economy, but I will be back in another Cruiser in 2010! Like they say, "once you drive a Cruiser, you'll never drive anything else!" Or something like that... :smiley_drive:

I can't resist any longer and this is directed at one person. My 80 series has lasted longer to date than any 100 series currently on the road. :wings:

HA! It's like listening to the same old folks (or types) who post up falicies...like "new technology vehicles (100 series for example) being less reliable than older tech vehicles" and "they'll leave you stranded". Boring. Not factual. Quite the opposite. Like or dislike...the facts are out there about the differences. Not everybody likes the truth and that's OK.

you are on your 4th steering rack, is that correct?

you had your front axle disassembled and repaired in Moab by the good graces of a Cruiserhead, not your own hand, correct?

In general, Toyota SUV's are reliable, well-engineered and strong. Leave it at that.

On my 4th rack

1st head gasket :sombrero:
1st rear main seal :sombrero:
No overheating :sombrero:
2nd set of spark plugs :sombrero:
Never needed to add oil in between the long Mobil1 change intervals :sombrero:
Have not needed to replace a 2" severely hidden coolant hose to avoid being stranded :sombrero:
No moonroof work...it's still quiet and sealed :sombrero:
All power windows work at like-new speed :sombrero:
I don't need to watch/tighten the four nuts below the knuckles after each trip :sombrero:

Rack 1...replaced by dealer under warranty...wasn't the rack. It needed front wheel bearing repacking instead.

Rack 2...replaced by the dealer under extended warranty...had a small leak.

My dealer loved replacing things under warranty for me.

Rack 3...replaced by me...it was leaking badly

Latest rack is 3-years old.

Moab? I arrived with a small knocking sound from the front. Robbie thought wheel bearings and was nice enough to take the wheels off and tighten them up. Didn't solve the issue. Later on a test drive Robbie found out I had a bad CV joint. Turn out the dealer screwed up their repair. They seen leaking boots and replaced them under warranty. They botched a clamp and by the time I got to Moab the CV was shot.

I LUV THE STORIES THAT SOME FOLKS TELL ON THE FORUMS. :victory:

They are either uninformed or liars, or have agendas. Some of the stupid stuff they say......

*They put down the 100's IFS as being weak and say my "axle was rebuilt in Moab cuz it failed".

*Shotts didn't work on his own truck in Moab. Plain stupid! Every 4-wheeler is supposed to be a mechanic or he sucks? Do these people think the same when the driver's a female? I take pride in the fact I don't have to work on my vehicles. Time is money and a mechanic costs me less compared to not working. I win.

*100's are less reliable because Shotts' was taken apart in Moab.

Oh crud...there's been a 100 stupid references to the Moab deal. So let me see, nobody elses truck has every been taken apart anywhere on earth except Shotts'. Luv it!

I think I've seen 80-series with their front wheels off. I think they even require front axle and/or bearing maintenance. :sombrero:

Speaking of IH8Mud, is there a way other than turning off page style through your browser to change that impossibly hard on your eyes black background with white text page style they use? I can't stay on there for more than 10-15 minutes at a time because it's so fatiguing to my eyes.

ExPo is so much more soothing a color scheme.

I don't think so. Portal and Mud both use the same software. I don't see any options in the User CP to control background settings at the individual user level. You could always ask either board owner to see tho.

Soothing color scheme? Must be why you drive a pink panties Lexus? Sorry - Mud reference to Lexus' owners/trucks. :hehe: No offense intended.
