by the way, the picture you took of my truck (my avatar now) is one of the best shots I have ever seen of my truck IMO. I suck at taking good pictures!

Great trip

Those are some great photos and video of some interesting places. It's good to see someone going out and discovering some places in TX.
Your comment expresses perfectly my sentiment regarding rural land in TX!

Mr. Leary and others have set out on a grand quest of creating an overland route for the Central States of the U.S. Well, turns out the process is far more difficult than it appears, especially in Texas! Oh Texas, how I hate you. Every seemingly GREAT dirt road is interrupted by a gate.

A few years ago, I lived in CA for 8 months. While there I spent as much time as I could up in the mountains, camping/hiking on the beautiful BLM areas. When I drove back to TX, I took a path back for a couple of weeks mostly winding through S Utah, exploring miles and miles of the BLM roads and trails. When I got back to TX, I was eager to find the areas managed by the BLM here and get out and explore them. Much to my frustration, it seems that there is not a single square mile of BLM land in this state... everything is private - fenced and gated. :-/

Keep getting out there :-D

Doesnt Big Bend have BLM land? I know there are a lot of wide open spaces to explore. We are hoping to take off to BB pretty soon.

Nice report guys, Palo Duro is a great place to explore. I'm with you also, very very little public land in TX, thats why we moved back out west.

See, you would have only had 4 photos if it wasnt for me. Chewy, Expedition Family 1&2, and the yucca plant.:ylsmoke:

That's why you are a photographer, and I am just a guy with a camera.

More pics....

She had a rough day... the old gal isn't much of an athlete.

The dogs did pretty well, apart from laying down in the mud during an unattentive moment.

Kiddo hitched a ride for the last mile or so...

Great pics and writeup. I love the project. I can totally relate with the gate thing too. For all of the gates I have encountered far down dirt roads and trails, I wonder how much time and mileage I have wasted backtracking them. I have hit my fare share of them scouting the UP Overland trips.
