I plan to call the place over in Mira Loma where the axle was ordered. I should be able to get new Dexter parts through them too. I just don't know enough to say that their hubs are compatible with Toyota rims without the Spidertrax spacers. I'll be glad to be helped by someone more knowledgeable.

You'll need the Spidertrax. Search my trailer build to see why. Good luck!!

If you decide you need/want spacers, I recommend you talk to the guys at Adventure Trailers. They have a local (SoCal) source that can build anything you need. Very high quality and quick turn time. That's where I got mine when I bought my used Horizon.

You'll also get to tap into their knowledge base, which is very deep.

Did you need the spacers for Toyota rims on your trailer?

Yeah, the previous owner set the Horizon up with hubs to match his Jeep. I talked to Mario at AT about the alternatives to reconfigure it to match my Toyota. Cost was about a push between new hubs vs. adapters. With the backspace on the wheels I use he thought I'd probably benefit with a little extra clearance, and I liked the idea of a wider stance on the trailer for better stability. So, long story short, we ended up converting the bolt pattern with adapters.

Ended up with the outer edge of my tires pretty much even with the side boxes on the Horizon.

Do you have any pictures of the adapters in a thread anywhere? I would be interested in how it handles a 5 bolt hub to 6 bolt by 5.5". Also I'm guessing that the adapter had a hub-centric face to work with rims compatible with your FJC?

Right now in Craigslist there are a million folks selling Tacoma pull-off rims, both alloy and steel. The alloys seem to have the same backspacing (5") and offset (30mm) as a 4Runner so compatibility should be good. The steel rims seem to be lug-centric so no adaptor would be needed to go to new 6 bolt drums.

If I went for steel Tacoma rims then I'd order new 6 bolt hubs and change the studs from SAE to metric. I'd prefer alloy rims though.

I don't have any pics. They were two piece adaptors, so one ring that bolts to the hub, and then a second ring that bolts to the first. IIRC, the overall thickness was 1.25".

If I get a chance I try to pull a wheel and take some pics.

Do you have any idea what the back space is on the wheels that are on the trailer now?

I know that if Toyota wheels are anything like Jeep wheels, you will almost have to run spacers...even if you convert the hubs because the factory backspace is pretty deep.

It's always possible they set the axle up on that trailer of yours for a deep backspaced wheel too.
