I know it's been done a lot but - what tires for my Hundy?

I drive a stock 2002 Lexus LX (sans running boards) which I bought used at about 68k miles. It was shoed with some new Big O A/T style tires. I like the looks of the aggressive tread and it seems fine for the typical pavement/dirt road driving I do. I don't wheel, I don't do crazy and most of my driving (this is my daily driver) is on pavement. Where I live, we have winter (although this past one has been mild) and I do like driving local back roads, two tracks, etc.

Anyway, on my pickup and van, I run Michelin LTX M/S tires and thought I should go with the less aggressive tread when I replace the Big O's. Just seems it would look wrong.

What do you tire gurus recommend for 265x75x16? The Big O's are 265's and were put on by the previous owners who mostly used the rig to commute between Las Vegas and their place in Jackson, WY.

I had a set of General Grabber ATs on my Cruiser when I first bought it. I was very impressed with them. They were a good pavement tire but still capable of hitting the dirt.

I've liked the Big O's enough over the past 30k miles that I was tempted to simply replace them but we lost our Big O dealer a few years ago and the closest is two hours away now.

I have LTX MS2 on my 100. Just a fantastic tire period. Had them on my 4Runner for >100k miles and we did take it on lots of dirt and some wheeling that many might think is pretty rough. I got the certificates from Discount both times (for the 100 and the 4Runner) and never used them. It had BFG ATs when I got it and I would get about 310 miles per tank doing highway driving and now I pretty consistently am getting 330 out of a tank. And the snow performance is much better. And honestly, they do really well in sand and do great in wet and rocky terrain too. Just no mud.

They do about as good as you will get for wear and mileage. I have Toyo MTs on my 80 and while I'm not gonna fall back in terms of aggressiveness to to the MS2 on the 80, I will come back to a nice AT (Toyo, Cooper, Nitto, etc.).

If you want an aggressive tire that does great in snow a lot of people get the Duratracs. The sidewalls aren't any stronger than the MS2 but they would be better for offroad.

I had Michelin MS on mine. Great on road tire and last a long time. I switched to toyo open country at2, and other than being slightly more noisy, very happy with performance so far.

I'd probably be wise to consider re-shoeing the LC with the Michelin LTX M/S tires considering the good success we've had with them for so may years. They work pretty well on my 2x4 PW camping van on the dirt roads and two-tracks that I mostly drive.

I just put on the Cooper ATP tire from Discount Tire. So far no complaints. Haven't had them in the snow yet. I went with a 275/70/18 on my '04. I'll post a pic as soon as I get a chance. I'm all stock with the exception Slee Step Sliders.

No reason to go A/T tread given what you use it for. Nothing wrong with Mich M/S or similar tires on an LC.

If you must go A/T, I'd go something very mild like Michelin AT2 or Bridgestone Revo.

Yeah, I haven't gotten great wear on the Big O's as I think about it. I'm at about 30k and they have not done well on ice. I've always had such good luck with Michelins that I will probably reskin with the LTX M/S.

The LTX MS2s on the 4Runner, and I rotated the spare through, got me over 100k. And they might be the best tire period for mileage. I look for opportunities to use those tires now. They are as suited for rough trails but they will be great for snow, highway, light wheeling, Utah (sandstone), ... Michelin really nailed it with those tires.

I'm still trying to figure out the difference between the M/S and the M/S 2 as Costco seems to be selling both the the 2's being less expensive.

I didn't think you could get the MS anymore. Hmmm. My guess is they are dwindling in supply maybe? I believe the MS2 is supposed to be superior. I've had the MS2 for at least 6 years so it's a little strange they still sell both imo. You probably know this but I'd look for the Load Range E. A little bit stiffer than the passenger variant. I got 275/70R18 on my 100. About 33" tall.
