I need Help! Transmission Problems

Ok, you guys are my last best hope. I started having issues with my 05 TJ auto trans. It would stick in 2nd or 3rd gear when I came to a stop. I could manually shift it to low and it would shift in slowly though. Or I could floor it, and it would eventually kick down. It is inconsistent though, doesn't happen all the time. It only happens when it is warmed up. So I took it to a trans shop. They told me it was the ECM/PCM causing the problem (I should mention the "check engine light was on, and the codes were saying trans and 02 senser). So, after a bit of a challenge, we found a new computer for the Jeep, and that took care of the CE light, but not the trans problem. So months later, I took it back to the Transmission shop, and they said the trans needs to be rebuilt. So they did that. That did not solve the shifting problem. Like I said, it didn't happen all the time. And I should also mention that towing my jeep trailer didn't make it any worse. So I took it back to the trans shop, and now they tell me that it is because the trans is running to hot (240 after a short drive), so they said I needed an oil cooler, because the temp coming out of the radiator was not much different than going in (they suspect it was blocked or something). I had replaced the stock radiator with a Champion aluminum radiator. I have not checked the lower tank for a blockage yet, but they bypassed the tank all together so it shouldn't matter. So after all that, and almost $4,000.00 later, I still have the same problem. So what else can I do? Replaced: ECM/PCM, rebuilt the trans, installed external trans oil cooler. What am I missing? Has anyone had an experience like this? Please help!

You're in Riverside, I am as well, have you taken it to Benson Transmission in Bloomington? They know their stuff. Mike is the owner.

I'm sorry to say that a lot of shops don't know their hole from an *** in the ground. My neighbor has had several Ford trucks and he has gone off to the dealer and after 4 days in there they call to say it is fixed. Half way home, same problem.
At least for his diesel he has found a good shop that can fix the thing in about 20 minutes. Barely enough time for him to walk home and walk back to pick it up.

Find a better shop and good luck.

Rebuilt trans to me means they put new clutches in and maybe new solenoids.

What external sensors are there on the trans? If start with testing and checking those. As well as any other external influence on the transmission

It's my understanding that in the ECM/PCM, the PCM portion controls the power train, which I assume includes the transmission, which has been replaced. That is why I am so frustrated.

You may be right, and it may come to that. but right now it is under warranty, and I'm trying to avoid any additional cost.

don't know if you are still dealing with this, but it sounds like a torque converter lockup (fail to unlock) issue. you might look into that some. sometimes a really good fluid flush can de gunk things to the point where they function again.

Sorry for the delay in replying, the torque converter was replaced in the tranny rebuild, so that would not the problem. Thank you for your response though.
