Does anyone own this model?? It's what what made my short list. I'm hoping someone here has actually bounced it down the road less traveled for a while and is happy.

I went with the 208H because of the very small remote mountable head unit. I went back and forth between the Yaesu 7800 and the Icom 208H...the small size and larger LED display of the 208H won out. The only nit I guess I have is the remote head unit is not quick detachable. And I didn't think I was going to like having to run the mike from the main 208H box, which I have mounted towards the middle of my LC, to the driver's seat area (use regular CAT5/6 cabling with a coupler). But now after using it for a couple months I like this set-up better...less clutter etc.

One of the reasons I choice this radio is like mentioned in the previous post the mic plugs into the body of the radio rather then the face. It is personal preference but to me this makes for a cleaner install and gives you more options for the placement of the face.

I have been very happy with the performance of the radio.

Your already running cables from the RF deck to the head, whats another cable to route. Yes I like the head mounted mic connectors but on my 706 I also pulled a second mic cable up and use that so it goes where I want it and the head goes where I want it. They are not the same.

I too have been looking at this radio along with the 7800. In fact not being able to decide has lead me to stop working on my license. I think the 7800 would be a better radio or at least that is what I read but the 208 would make for a much cleaner install as I could easily put the face in my armrest and the radio itself inder the seat were the mic cord would come up betwwen the seats. I can picture it all in my head and I like it.

I think it is cool how you guys out west can mount stuff under your seats! We could never do that here in Florida. Well not if you wheel during the rainy season. Getting several inches of water in the cab down here is common. Everything has got to be high and dry down here.

We have received, in Northern Nevada, 1.68" of total precip in the last 8-months...dry is an understatement.

I couldn't find the Ark smiley... Monday we took 2.5 inches in 1.5 hours. Thanks for the input, I think the 208 will win. Larger display and the fact I don't need dual display and the mike cord isn't hanging off the remote head.

I know I know. The problem is I have been getting by just fine without it. I know it is like a computer though, once you get one you can never go back. I am just going through the spin cycle of life right now. The HAM will come, I probably could take it and pass right now but I want to do really well on it.

Well...it does help if you have others to talk to on 2M! We, thanks to the NorCal 80 Wagons crew (and RustyTLC for getting us organized), have a few more in Northern Nevada on 2M. And once I used it for the first time I couldn't wait to not have to turn on the stupid CB anymore! Someday!
