Iceland 2008

I see it's possible to ship to Iceland from the east coast of the US or Canada. It looks like there's a ship every couple of weeks. Is it reasonable to think of shipping to Iceland and then taking the ferry to Scotland rather than shipping directly to somewhere in Europe? Anybody done it?

Hey,
there is due to the bad financial situation of the Smiryl line no traffic to Scotland or Norway in 2009. http://www.smyril-line.com/
But you could use container transport...

greetings Sönke

Hi,

I saw some links coming from this site to my webspace so thought I would drop in and see what was up.

I see Colin's been briefing you on the trip. Mines was the 110 TD5.

This was the route we drove.

One of the videos is still on Youtube and can be found here

The other is on my webspace and can be seen here - it's 16Mb

My pictures from Iceland can be found here

From an information perspective..

Bearing in mind this was 5054 miles at 22.5mpg..

All prices in UKP £

FUEL UK Heading there : 259.86
Iceland : 486.26
Faroes : 103.8 (Includes filling the Jerry can and truck full to the brim)
UK Getting home : 291.45 (Longer way home)

Total £1141.36

Ferry Transport 4 berth shared with the three of us £669.33

Ferry Food/Drinks etc Including the buffet meal most evenings. £149.15

Iceland expenditure - food/camping/refreshments etc £360
Faroes expenditure - food/camping/refreshments etc £76

Souvenirs (don't do them) £0

Giving a total of £2395

As you can see - almost 50% of the cost was down to fuel. For what it's worth I thought it was a cost effective holiday - especially if you break this down over the four weeks - 600 a week to visit a place that's out of this world.

Hope this helps -

Craig
