Ideal Water Filter For Desert Environment?

ive been using Sawyer products my entire life and so far so good. the majority of camping weve done is out here on the east coast. filling gravity bags an such has never been an issue, theres clear mountain water everywhere with very little sediment. i figure out west thats not going to be the case. my plan is to bring my 2L sawyer .1 micron gravity system along with some tubing just in case all i have is shallow pools to draw from.

anything else i need to consider?

In the desert I would plan on not even seeing a shallow pool. If you do see one, drinking from it will be the last thing on your mind. If there is water in the desert, civilization and clean water are not far away. Bring water with you, one gallon/person/day for drinking at the least, more if you plan on being active. Seriously, it’s really really dry you will need more water than you can filter, if you can even find a clean/legal source. Also, don’t even take a short hike without plenty of water on you. That is when people usually get in trouble, when a short hike turns into a long one. Plan on being active in the evening and early morning, siesta in the afternoon. Chapstick, hats, sunscreen, aloe, and shade are musts. When your water gets low, leave. Summertime is miserable, you can’t escape the heat. Plan on staying on a body of water if you do go in the summer. Budlight counts as water.

May and June can get pretty hot during the day. You may want to stay in the northern parts of AZ and look for some elevation. Lake Powell is fun in the Summer/late spring if you can get your hands on some sort of watercraft or float toys. What are you building?

Sprinter van, 2wd multi use cargo van/ camping van...electrical, toilet, bed, portable propane shower, that sort of thing. no built in cabinets or anything. i have a feeling that after this road trip ill be going back to my 4x4 truck roots.

I did the 2wd van thing for a while and had a blast with it. Loved not having to set up camp. I took that thing down washes, all over Utah, and a bunch of other places that were “4x4” only. I had to turn around a few times but that was part of the adventure. All the weight over the rear tires really helps with traction, just don’t stop.
