Ideas for a new dedicated GPS for overlanding

That would depend on your Mapping software.
I use either on X or Gaia and Scenic Maps.
Dual GPS is a Receiver only it works with most apps.
Just Bluetooth to your Device and away you go.
I'm still unclear to me - the Garmin units I use store the waypoints in a GPX file, which can then be downloaded and seen on Garmin Connect or Basecamp (and shred with others). I understand that other programmes can use the GPX files as well, for route planning or following. I'm not tied to Garmin software (I've simply used it for a long time) so would be fine with other programmes. My concern is whether the data can be stored and downloaded and not ony displayed in real time. I'd appreciate advice to overcome my ignorance.

Try another Mapping software like onX or Gaia on your other device's
be it Android or iPad download their software.
Dual XGPS is a Bluetooth Receiver Only.
