well, I see on auto trader 1998 with 38K for 10K and 1999 Darker edition with 87K mileage for 9K, which one you would go for it and why? 1998 one had an accident according to carfax.

thx

I would buy the '98

The 1999 looks like the Gen II LS (no locker). My '99 Gen II.5 has a locker and "wide" fenders. Maybe it was imported (i.e. it wasn't made for the US market)?

The 1998 looks like the typical Gen II.5 "wide" fenders w/winter package (locker, heated seats, etc.). NY winters with salt on the roads may have rotted the under carriage? Really low miles though. Kind of cool. You are East Coast right? Might make getting the '98 an easier buy logistically.

I would go with the '98. Low miles, lockers, closer (if that is the case). Turns out mine was in an accident (not disclosed by the seller), but it does what I want it to and I am glad to have it.

HTH,

Clem

We have a 99 winter package with 124k on it. It is in great condition if and we are thinking of selling it to get a 2004-2006 Gen 3.
If anyone is interested. Absolutely everything works.

This is one of "those" stories: A retired woman who lived a few houses down from us owned this since it was new. She lived here six months out of the year. It lived in her heated way to clean garage. She moved to Florida to be close to her kids so we bought it two years ago. Yes all service while she owned it was done at the dealership. The passenger rear quarter has been repainted. She said she scratched it pulling into the garage soon after she got it. You cant tell it was repainted. We added the 31"tires, brush guard and Hella's.
It really has not been offroad hardly at all, we have our 90 Montero for that.
The idea was that someday we would retire the 90 and build up the 99 but I think it is to nice for what we do.
We will probably ask $5000
Now we are looking for a 2004-2006 with that plan.

The 99 is a 3.0, even though the description says 3.5. I'd do with the low miles 98, assuming no rust issues. Also, FWIW, I got my 00 Endeavor package (HL washers, heated seats, Infinity) a year ago with 84k miles for $6100. It of course has no locker though. Was a two owner, one family ride.
