If your wife doubts your investments...

.... take her with next time you put them to work!!!

Some while ago I upgraded all of our towing/recovery equipment, and most of it is made by Factor 55. This didn't really come cheap, and while my wife was not complaining, she couldn't really understand why I was purchasing more expensive stuff. Yes, she understands being prepared, but you know.... It's just sitting in the truck, yadda. Well, fast forward, one of our kids called. Since it happened on a Sunday, I took her with, said I need her help, which I did. This is what we found:

It's a long, private, dirt-road driveway our kid drove in..... for whatever reason. I took the picture after I already started digging and putting the boards underneath. Not really underneath, there were rocks, and it was already deep in there. Frame sat on the ground. Looked worse when you got closer. Anyway, no more digging...

So, I decided to put the RAM to work. Wasn't even work, truck doesn't care. Doesn't even care when it's hauling cars... love this thing!!!

I'm not saying where I attached the rope, you'll shake your head. But who the hell thought that building vehicles without towing hooks was a good idea?! Fire this person!!!

Anyway, 4-wheel lock, a little gas and boom, done. No big deal. Great truck and great equipment.

And the best part? After all that, she said she's so happy that I got this equipment and she'll never question my purchases again.

Sunday was saved and then we watched NASCAR on TV....

That's a win I'd say ;)

Lack of attachment points is a large reason why I'll pass on pulling out cars. Let the tow trucks with the special hooks take care of those. Obviously if someone is stuck in the desert and in danger I'd do it anyway but if you have cell service and aren't in danger you can wait for the tow service.

She's a keeper.

Yup, 15yrs and counting...

I have an alternate theory of the universe which dictates that bringing something along ensures you are not likely to need it, but leave something behind….

That's a lesson to be learned for sure.

It sat on the axle; the tow truck driver would have looked just as dumb as I did until making a final call. No way to get underneath, unless digging through rock. What I forgot was the damn floor jack, then I could have put the boards right underneath the wheels instead of more like in front of it... But like stated above, if you don't have it, that's when you are most likely to need it.

Being able to lift the tire from around the perimeter of the vehicle without having to access underneath the vehicle is one of the most under-rated recovery tactics.

I ended up designing a special nose for my #TaulerJack to make it work even better. The legs are independently adjustable link by link. I also used 'Datsun' mini J-hooks that I tested in over 100 different wheel designs.

Lifting the wheel makes it SO much easier to get a traction board directly under the tire where it is much more effective.
