Ikarus' Lightweight Access Cab Build

Are you like a future version of me?

Currently living in Phoenix, but been thinking about moving to Utah or Cali. Currently driving an FR-S, but want to sell it to get a Taco (want to explore more -- only so much gear fits in the FR-S, and you can only explore so many roads). Looking at getting a base model, access cab, 4x4. But I want the V6 and manual transmission. REALLY want the TRD (I got the opportunity to drive the exact setup I want, on an offroad course... it was heaven). Not sure if I'm willing to settle for less, though. ATRAK is pretty damn nice.

Definitely going to keep an eye on this build... now, back to lurking.

Nice. Sounds like you're on the right track! TRD with a V6 and a manual would be so rad. I sometimes wish the 2.7L had a little more power, but I enjoy the MPGs. Can't go wrong either way. Hope that works out for ya

I have liked that tire gate since seeing it on a project Tundra for a Toyota magazine. Glad it's solid and works well for ya.

Could you put up some more pictures of how it mounts and such. I am very interested.

Truck looks great as usual.

When you say flying, What are you flying and filming with?

Thanks dude. I'll post some more pics soon. Just flying a drone - DJI Inspire, shot that picture with the built in camera - but I think I'll be upgrading soon to the Micro 4/3 camera DJI just came out with.

Sweet, I just got two baby nano copters to see if I can fly them indoors and then maybe next year have a DJI with the 4K camera.

There are a bunch in my local Craigslist but are DJI 2nd gens or something. Most have gimbals for GoPro HERO 3s.

I have been very impressed with the DJI offerings.

Yeah, I'm super happy with DJI. I had a 3DR drone last year (that actually met an early death in the AZ desert on an Overland Journal shoot.)

On Some Adventure - Overland Video Series

I made a few changes to my truck this week, which I'll have to post about later - for now, check out this episode of On Some Adventure. Defconbrix and I like to get out and explore Utah, so we started documenting it. We'll get to some gnarlier trails at some point, but let me know what you think!

Dang man,

That's unfortunate. Sorry to hear that as they aren't cheap. I hope you got it back and scored the footage!

Great video, however I miss not seeing the mighty 4-cyl Access Cab. just being honest.
Hope it shows up in some further vids.

Yeah, you can see the drone footage in this video I made:

And thanks. It will for sure - it's just easier to take one truck out at a time. Next trip we'll be in mine.

Dude that video rocks!

Wow, you guys were having some fun. I can't imagine the editing for all that. Looked great and with the Jeep and Benz as rides out there. Looked pretty high class.

Man, both videos are really sweet. You do some great work.

Love your truck too by the way. The 2.7L access cab is a really underrated platform in my opinion. Not the fastest thing in the world, but really reliable, great mileage, and suited pretty well to a moderate overland build.

Yeah man, it was a good time. You can't see the 100+ degree temps though... haha

Thanks! Yeah, I love it. Before I got the Tacoma, I test drove a Defender (2.5L NA) and it was unbearably slow, but I think the idea of a lightweight, high mpg, reliable rig that can handle most terrains has stuck with me.

Also took the Tacoma over to Cruiser Outfitters yesterday - very stoked...

Oh! Goody Goody!

Did they I stall the lockers and airlines and everything? That's fantastic.

You have an extra capable Tacoma now. I'm jealous man. Looks great.

I installed the compressor, they handled the wiring and air lines, and gears and lockers installed at a transmission/gears place.

Oh man you gotta let us know how the gears feel and your take on em.

You have my future set up to a "T"

255/85s, lift, re-rear to 4.88s, AND lockers.
