Whats up everyone! Im back on the scene with another project...
As i last posted my family and I have moved Back to the Big Island of Hawaii and are now pretty settled.
Having been here now for 6 months and itching for another project I just picked up this 2012 Ford E350 4x4 Quadvan. Its the 15 passenger/longer version and I am pretty excited to have it. When I first moved back i was able to get a job which was right up my alley. I got a job doing Mauna Kea adventure tours and Astronomy tour guide. For those of you not familiar Mauna Kea is the Tallest mountain in the world if measured from its base, but only 14k above sea level, and THE best place in the world for stargazing and astronomy! Pretty much everyday i would drive either a Mercedes sprinter 4x4, or E350 4x4 or ford transit 4x4, up the mountain and watch the sunset with clients before taking them down a few thousand feet to begin the astronomy/stargazing portion of the tour. So this was a pretty sweet gig for me!
Move ahead a few months and you may or may not have heard about the protests which continue you to block access to Mauna kea. Given that tour companies are no longer able to access the top of the mountain for tours some have begun selling off some of there vehicles. Therefore, I was able to purchase this 2012 E350 4x4 from my company.
I have only had it for 2 days but I have already given in a through cleaning, changed the oil, removed the decals and goo, and roughed the paint with some 100grit in preperation for the MONSTALINER! Thats right, Im doing it again! You all know I love the stuff! They have a bunch of new colors now and I went with "Grey Matter" I have also already ordered a swivel base for the front passenger seat from sportsmobile.
Anyway the plan is to make a live-able, camp-able, capable rig. I am going to remove the back two rows and build a bed with storage underneath. I will remove the first row but keep the second to double as carrying passengers but also as a couch in the "living room" side of the van. Solar, roof rack and maybe even a roof top tent to sleep a few more people.
The Big Island is about the size of Connecticut and RI together and the places to go and see here are incredible!
