Six year update:
It's been almost 6 years since I finished my 80 Series build. This truck has been all over the Western states, off-road in deserts, ATV trails, and lots of highway miles.
The biggest upgrade I have made to the truck in the last 6 years is that I finally got around to installing a fuel gauge for my auxiliary fuel tank. It's SOOO much more useful now that I know how much fuel I have remaining in the tank.
The other upgrade I've made is the addition of a KingOne TDS Goldfish Winch. It's been a good winch, and I've used it on occasion to rescue stuck vehicles, and pull downed trees out of the way.
After 6 years of hard use, I just have to say that the 80 Series is a terrific vehicle. It gets me everywhere I need to go. I hunt, fish, and explore and it has never let me down, and constantly surprises me with how capable it is off-road. It's only down side is that it sucks a lot of gas. This hard on the wallet, but I have a lot of expensive hobbies, so I'm used to spending money on fun.
What might I do differently if I were starting from scratch today? Not too much. My headlights are old, incandescent technology. The new LED lamps are better. I will probably replace my lights with LEDs.
I flirt with the idea of getting a drawer system and refrigerator slide for my truck. However, I have a hard time justifying the added weight of such a system. I don't think I will end up ever getting a drawer system, unless there's a breakthrough in lightweight drawer systems.
Speaking of weight, if I were starting from scratch, I'd probably look for a lighter weight front and rear bumper.
That's it. Six years later, I'm still loving my Cruiser. It's taken me to tons of great places, and helped make awesome memories for me and my kids.
