Good info Scott. U500 is always a good idea Funny, but I'm actually onto 2 different trucks in centeral america right now. I love how info on this forum seems to come as I'm doing the same thing
Don't really know what all the fuss is about shipping a vehicle from Au is. I shipped a few and it was no big deal. I always talked to the owners on the phone before wiring my money. I never had a single problem except for a few parts being stolen. I shipped all the cruisers from the east coast of Au. Total cost to my door was always less then $3000. I thought all this was old news by now. So many people have bought and shipped from Au that I don't think they have any cruisers left over their.

I had a 5spd trans air mailed to me from Oz last summer, cost was $500 in shipping on a trans that cost $1000. So it ended up being a $1500 trans, used mind you and in unknown condition. I can buy a brand new NV4500 5spd for $1500. So to me, it is no longer worth it.
I don't think that's a useful comparison, because the whole point of buying stuff from overseas is you're getting something you can't get in the states.
NV4500's are common, thus there is obviously no need to import them

My point was simply that you can get a superior trans for the same kind of money. And it is also just my opinion.
Also, any good sites to look for these rigs online in Australia?
Right, which means you shouldn't be looking to import something when you can get a superior version in North America.
The whole point of importing something to get to something you can't get in North America, so there is no comparison really.

FYI, a nice 80-series with a turbo diesel and low kms in Panama can be had for $10grand.
Cheers
Wow, you're not kidding:

80 series Cruisers get an exemption from NHTSA, too. I think you just need to fix the lights. That leaves you with the EPA... have to do a little reading...

That looks pretty beat and it has 300,000km's on it....
Based on everything I've read trucks generally get used hard in SA and are maintained only when absolutely necessary.
