In Praise of Pie Irons

I have always used the Rome pie irons and really like them. My Mrs. came home a while back with a pair of the original ToasTite irons she found at Goodwill for a couple of bucks and they work very well too. Being aluminum I would be a bit careful about using them directly in a fire for fear of melting the aluminum but on a stove or above the fire I think they would be fine-both cook great on the gas stoves-just keep the flame down and let time do the work. I think the new Rome's are cast in China, the new ToasTite is make in USA but I have not seen them so no idea the quality compared to the older ones.
