Yes, Massey Ferguson 168s, 175 and a few more. Rated from 67 hp to 84hp, depends on application. The South Africa HJ75 had 74hp. Not build for speed, but lots of low down torque for off road use.

I can't help you with U.S. import/smog questions but would be interesting to figure out exactly which LC you're talking about. I lived in RSA in the late 80's & early 90's and Hiluxes were everywhere but actual Land Cruisers we not really common at all, surprisingly.
Import taxes were very high and while there was a fairly good selection of locally assembled Toyotas, VW's and Mercedes cars- among others- anything out of the ordinary came at a fairly steep price.

I'm also familiar with the ADE corp.. Never heard about any kind of local assembly of Land Cruisers, with or without the ADE motor.

Land Cruiser FJ75 and HJ75 was manufactured (or assembled?) in South Africa from 1985/86. The FJ had the Toyota 3F engine and the HJ the local manufactured ADE 236. In the 1980's most were sold to the South African Defence Force and the national power utility (Escom). Mining companies also bought Land Cruisers. The Land Cruiser FJ60 was imported and subjected to very high tax.
