Installing 30L calorifier in FWC

Has anyone here installed a marine grade calorifier in their FWC?

I have been looking at the 30L water heaters from ISOTHERM and am strongly considering installation. Plumbing it into my existing engine coolant system seems quite easy and since it's so well insulated the internal water remains hot for several hours. While searching for information I read where systems such as this are used in vans.

I would most likely extend the heater return line down the firewall and back to the unit which might be placed at the front panel inside my FWC. The output line from the calorifier would then run in parallel back up to the firewall and back to the return side of the water pump.

It just seems that if I am driving and pumping 100° C water there is no reason why I can not repurpose some of that wasted energy and heat up six gallons of water inside an insulated tank that will keep it very warm for 12-24 hours. Some folks are doing that already and although it is a bit more complex when compared to a conventional propane water heater my energy is largely free.

Since I am installing a 30 gallon diesel tank to supply my diesel stove and heater combination another option would be to install an Eberspächer Hydronic S3 Economy diesel power water heater in line. That would be wonderful since it would barely sip diesel fuel from my massive 30 gallon reserve and also serve two other purposes. One would be heating the six gallons of water in the calorifier if I have not driven for some time. The second use would be to preheat the engine and interior on those exceptionally cold days.

I won't be able to offer any comments on the calorifier, but, as you have a 3500, I would recommend looking in to the RAM ambulance prep package elements. Some of the engine integration for the coolant lines can be done with OEM parts if that is something that interests you.
