Insulating a topper

I recently bought a used topper for my Tacoma. Curious what success / failure's the members here have experienced. I've read the 1" foam from the big box has been used a lot. Sounds good but if there's other options I'm all ears. Also, how are members attaching the foam / insulation. I've read both glue and tape. What glue or tape has had positive results, what should I avoid. Thanks for any help!

3M has a spray glue that worked well on a van interior, would be suitable for your application. There are several, read the use to get the right one. Use the faced foamboard glue on the face, then cover the foam. I think Monkey Grip also works well.

Most likely the best method is spray foam applied by a spray gun.

If you have firring strips you might use cap nails/screws. If you have "ribs" cap screws can work.

I used the 1” thick white styrofoam that came precut for garage doors I think.

Don’t remember how I attached it.

Do you have a smooth fiberglass or metal with frame topper.

Liquid nails in a large caulking gun works pretty well for gluing those styro panels to either fiberglass or aluminum, FWIW.

I think the stuff I used was perfect size to fit between the framework of my steel contractor topper. I think I pressed it into place friction fit no adhesive, which mostly worked.

I used the bulk Bedrug material on my Alu-Cab as it’s more workable. Just used 3M velcro to attach to the walls. Been two years and no complaints
