Insurance question for those with FG Campers?

I had mine with Progressive, a few clicks and it was insured (liability only at about $100 per year). No questions asked about VIN being a 'commercial vehicle'.
Now with Allstate and again a piece of cake. Oregon vehicle registration shows 'motorhome' so that is all they needed to make them happy it was a motorhome and not a commercial vehicle as VIN would make it. An 'agreed upon' amount for full coverage.

Here's a thread from the Escapees site : http://www.rvnetwork.com/index.php?showtopic=109571&hl=insurance
It looks like they insure their class 8 haulers mostly with "Blue Sky" and FCIS (Farm and City). Progressive won't insure it as an RV just because you put a camper on the back, but you should be able to at least insure the truck under a commercial policy through any number of companies, their are LOTS of them on the road and they're all insured.

Well here is the mid-term report for now.

Liberty Mutual came back with a $4,000 policy through of all people, Progressive. Blue Sky was keen to insure the the FG/Camper when complete- but not the truck alone. FCIS only goes after the fifth wheel market.

So what we were left with was:

1) an agent in Helena, Montana that could insure the FG right away through Safeco Ins. and then possibly through Safeco when the trailer arrives and also when converted. He also reps for Allied Ins. that would insure the whole package when completed.

2) State Farm that would insure the truck right away and then do "comp only" on the trailer when attached. When we turned that down, they then said that they could do comp and collision on everything once it was put together as one.

We have quite a list of independent agents that are interested in quoting on an FG/camper when complete.

Turns out that when some insurance companies ask for a tow vehicle, it can sometimes be nothing more than a scooter or motorcycle.

So if you are in the same scenario as us (own no home or other vehicles: we are still transitioning from our life full-time on a boat) Only a few places will insure an FG by itself. Once you have the whole thing together, there are more possibilities- not bucket loads- but enough.

The truck arrived yesterday morning and we went with Safeco through the agent out of Helena.

Interesting....I've got my 2012 with full replacement coverage at just over 1500/year. Just a flatbed for now. Liberty Mutual.

Mock, I feel your pain. I had insurance with progressive and received a letter that my insurance was being cancelled by the underwriter for they don't insure my type of vehicle. I called GEICO, ALL STATE, RV AMERICA, NATIONAL INTERSTATE and NATIONAL WIDE all said no. State Farm insured it, but only for comp and not full coverage. We have over $165K invested in this rig and it was built to RV standards and beyond by a company that builds specialize equipment for the military (we built the frame and they did the rest). Anyone else have any suggestions on how to obtain full coverage for this type of rig?TRUCK.jpg

Have you tried Gulfway, out of Florida? They insure race vehicles, and support vehicles, plus transporters, etc. When I had my M35A2 and Unimogs on the road, Gulfway had no issues insuring them.

We have not tried Gulfways- thanks for the tip. Several agents have called back asking for additional info. Most are saying that once we get the rig together they will submit again with pictures and explanations. Again- for those of you that have homes and car insurance- and add-on seems much easier. For those of us that are asking for exclusive insurance for out Fuso/camper combo- much tougher.
