Interesting device to charge and cook with... (BioLite)

Stumbled upon this from a blog that I frequent and have to admit that it looks interesting and might be worth keeping an eye on for those that are trying to limit their overall carried weight.

Pretty nifty. It looks like something that I would see on kickstarter.com. I wouldn't mind knowing more about it such as how lighting it is, an how long a few "twigs" keep it going.

Not having seen their specs I'd have to say that it won't be phenomenal and to many may actually be considered as laughable. The system uses their variation of thermoelectric effect and there are countless issues that affect overall output as the Wikipedia link above will display. I see it as a "half of nothing is nothing" issue. I'd rather have limited functionality than none at all. I know that there are people who frequent these forums that definitely have a usable space and weight limit and if they find that they could reduce then it may be worth consideration. The Thermette, or volcano stove is certainly not foreign to readers here as I have seen a few threads on them in the camping and cooking sections. Minimal fuel used to maximum effect. Worst case for this setup is that you can have a brew while you curse your devices for not charging fast enough. In the end, I asked to be added to their reserved list as I'd like to tinker with one for the sake of tinkering but am blessed with a platform that supports multiple batteries and eventually some sort of pragmatic solar setup as well.

+1, it's just a small "rocket" stove, and those are very efficient.

My only beef is with their marketing, as with this quote from the web page: "Our stoves cook your meals with nothing but the twigs you collect on your journey, eliminating the need for heavy, expensive, polluting petroleum gas." Someone needs to tell them that bottled gas burns much cleaner, with less pollutants and WAY less particulates than wood (twigs).
