In my never-ending search for maximized living space in a minimum-sized vehilce, I ran across this site on a company selling an interesting extendable RV:

Here's the floorplan:

While not an expedition vehicle, maybe the idea could be adapted.

ADDED: Ops, I forgot to mention Neverenough's UberCool build thread. He's got some really cool rear slide out ideas...

x's 2 on the slug comment but I really like the concept of the minimal length for urban area's or tight area's and expansion while in camp. Pretty cool!

Just when you think you've got a unique idea!:Wow1:

I played around with the approach of extending the shell rather than extending an entire room from within. There were pros and cons for each. The room from within won out for may reasons: overall construction approach, ability to lift the body from the subframe/bed, rear cargo platform, and the "side" slides. From the photos it looks like there's a similar approach to the slide-out support, although my all-composite body demanded some creative engineering.

I just hope y'all don't think my looks like a slug when it's done!

Actually, seeing different approaches to the same basic concept is always encouraging. Insanity loves company.....
