wow thats got to be rare, at least in the USA. Never seen a late model runner with a diesel here.

I don't know about the late models, but apparently there are conversion kits out there to transfer a VW TDI engine into the 4 Runner. A mechanic friend of mine has a 92 and as soon as he can either find a Jetta TDI engine or convince my mother to sell him her 97 Passat TDI he's gonna do it.

I see the 4 runners and surfs over here all the time with Diesels. Its a fairly easy swap into a Tacoma as well, but expensive to find a donor....

Do you have any info on the swaps? Holy smokes, a 1st gen 4runner would be sweet with a little diesel swap.

try dieseltoyz, they do conversions with the KZ and some other motors into TACO/4R/LC etc...

i was just gonna mention dieseltoyz, that runner is only as rare as you want it to be,, it could be a dieseltoyz swap.

PM Outsidr (Mike at Lokey Trucks). They do the diesel conversions and can get the Hilux diesels for the 1st Gen 4Runners or any 4Runner for that matter.

you can get diesel hilux surfs up to '93 imported up here. the 2LTE diesel sucks though! Lots of head problems. I am guessing they changed to the 1KZ when the body style changed in '96? that would be nice!
