Introduce myself

Hello,

I've been browsing this forum and thought I would introduce myself. Tons of great info on here and not much bad attitude. Until a few weeks ago I had a 1995 Tocoma extra cab v6 4x4 which I had bought new and driven for 16 years. Now I have a 2010 double cab Tacoma 4x4, manual, which I hope is as good as my old one. My off highway driving is primarily to access biking, Kayaking and backcountry skiing.

My plans for my new truck are,

Rear spring TSB (scheduled for tomorrow and Turner Toyota in Montrose gave me no guff on doing it)

Modify old rack from 95 truck to fit db cab bed.

New tires in November, AT, probably eldorado's, kuhmo's or toyo, trying to decide between 265/75/16 and 235/85/16

Rock sliders, will probably make myself.

Either OME lift or aal and bilstein 5100's

It's exciting to have a new truck but I miss my old one,

Morgan

Welcome! Those are both great trucks. Is it possible to get tired of the Crested Butte views? :Wow1:

I really like the 235/85R16 size--that's what I would run if I had 16" wheels. The tall/skinny profile just screams expedition and they're tough, cut right through mud and snow, have nice aerodynamics and often cost less than the wider ones.

Nope, don't think I'll ever get sick of the views. I'm little concerned about the highway performance of the 235s. The 265s are the closest to 31/10.5/15 tires I ran on my old truck so I'm pretty sure they will be fine. 235s will rip it up in the snow though, they're cheaper and probably get better MPG.

What part of the highway performance are you concerned about? Is it the diameter? With the Tacoma engines, especially the 4.0, I wouldn't worry about the slight overgearing. The narrow tires track better on the pavement--less wandering.

I am concerned about the width but you are probably right. They are not much narrower than the 245 stock tires and the diameter is almost exactly the same as the 265/75. so they should be good. The 4.0 has plenty of power.

Welcome Morgan. I spent 3 1/2 years of my life in CB. By far, the best 3 1/2 yrs of my life. I spent the majority of my time exploring the Elks and Raggeds. During the summers, I lived in my tent up Slate River. Two of my best friends still live in the Butte...actually, CB south now. Tomorrow, I am moving from city life in PA to Greenwater WA. Super pumped. On our (wife and dog) drive across the country, we plan to stop in CB for a week or so to visit friends and favorite trails. Perhaps our paths will cross.

Cheers!
