Introducing myself =)

Well over this sat & sun I took on the bedlining of the interior project by myself and it was pretty fun. A lot of work though, and I didn't exactly do a perfect job, haha, but I tried. I'm learning how to do a lot of things as I go, so it's fun to actually be able to do this stuff and not completely muck it up.. The first two pics at what the interior looked like stripped..

The two front seats weren't too hard to get out, just had to adjust them back and forth to get to the bolts easier. The rear seat thanks to the easy removable bottom cushion came out with ease. The top portion is just held in by the releasable clamps at the top and two pivot bolts on the bottom. The next two pics are all of the crappy carpet I pulled out and all the change I found under the center console, where the gearshift and ebrake are..

Turned out to add up to $18.54 haha.

These next two pics are after I just finished laying down the bulk of the bedliner..

It wasn't the prettiest set up.. I basically just ziptied all the seat belts and loose wires up and out of the way while it dried, may not have looked professional, but it worked.

This project I thought was really good for several reasons.. obviously the main ones being protection from rust, a degree of added durability to the interior.. but there were other good side effects too. You would not BELIEVE how much dust and crap hides under that carpet and the foam like padding underneath.. it was pretty bad, and you breath most of it in without realizing it. Also it gave me a really good opportunity to re-secure all of the loose wiring with zipties and enabled me to redo the supports for my CB antenna wire.

In the end it took me 15 hours over two days, but like I said, it was a good learning experiance, and I think my jeep is the better for it. :D

Very cool bedlining project. I just did something similar to my TJ with ceramic insulation/epoxy and it's so much nicer (and easier) to deal with than carpet.

Welcome to the board...cheers!

Looks good...that is one of the mods I plan on doing to my 93...especially since I have a leak somewhere and it will be easier to mop it up:yikes:

on a side note: how do you like the TruXus MT's ? I have heard that they can be a bit difficult to get balanced...true or false ??

Those tires actually haven't given me any problems at all, they aren't noisy on the highway, have great traction on every surface i've been on, don't tear down my mpg anymore than any other comparable tire would, and ive had my tires and alignment serviced before and they didn't say anything bad. All around good tire in MHO.:ylsmoke:

Heck yeah, what is competitive metals? I love the company, even though I would like to think I have the capability to be mechanically inclined, it's been kinda hard trying to teach it to myself, by myself, haha. Any help, friends, or parts I could get would be MORE than appreciated.

Competitive Metals is a metal supplier in El Cajon. They are also into racing ,crawling and just about anything with wheels. The employees have XJ's that are just street legal. Extereme XJ'S. They are great guys and help everyone out as much as they can. In fact they donated all the metal to the San Diego Off road Coalition to build their raffle car with. SDORC is an org. that fights to keep our public lands open for us all to use. Give me a call on Monday and I will tell you what I have available for the XJ. Our number is on the contact page of our web site. Thanks, Bob

Definately! Thanks for the info man, I'll be sure to give you a call and stop by their shop sometime soon. And I'm checking out the SDORC website too.. good stuff.

I think I'm gonna hijack my own introduction thread and turn it into my build/progress thread.. so everybody stay tuned. Here in the next week I will be installing a lightbar with four baja style lights on the roof rain gutters and the HD steering linkage package from currie.. pics and write ups soon to follow...

Build Update Progress: Good news AND bad news for me. Good news, my currie HD steering showed up..
curriehdsteer2.jpg

curriehdsteer3.jpg

That's good because I needed to replace the steering anyway because it desperately needed it, but the bad news is for some reason they sent it to me without the little silver stabilizer bracket that attatches the steering shock to the drag link. Which is this..
curriehdsteer.jpg

But it's ok because they are sending it to me direct from currie and it's on the way via UPS. I'll have it in less than a week I think.. but I still don't know how to install it because I've never done it before and a lot of this is still new to me, hah.

Next, I got my light bar in and lights and am ready to put it together.. The lights (four of them) are baja style and have clear lenses and hallogen bulbs, so I'm hoping offroad they will be bright enough. Here they are..
lightsnbar.jpg

lightsnbar2.jpg

It will mount by clamps on the rain gutters on my roof, I'm going to put it maybe four or five inches back from the very front. I'm running into problems here too though just because I've never put something together like this before either and I really want to get it right the first time, and doing the wiring from the roof mounts to the battery and switch placement won't be fun since I know NOTHING about electronics.. But I'm hopeful none the less, haha.

Still on the list of mods is too touch up the bedlining job on the interior with some spray on toughy skid paint to hit the spots I missed and give it another coat. (Any suggestions from anybody on what's best to use would be appreciated.) Rear disc brake conversion.. Adding a bracket set up to hold gas cans on my rear bumper.. Roof rack and rooftop eez awn tent (or some other really good brand) And that's all I can think of for now.. More pics to come with the progress!:safari-rig: :Mechanic:
