Introducing the Big Dummy!

Here she is in all of her 47 pound glory. I have made two grocery runs and while it always takes the load, packing is definitely an artform on this rig. I also got the Pea Pod from Xtracycle for hauling the little one around. The flight deck that the seat comes with is much nicer than the wooden one and the aluminum super hooks are definitely nicer than the original snap hooks. I have had to embrace my inner cruising spirit because the BD does not rip like a road bike but it is a blast to ride. The only downside that I have experienced so far is that every time you stop, people are going to talk to you about the bike.

I love those things. I haven't ridden the big dummy, yet, but I have ridden several xtracycle conversions and they are a hoot! Are those avid mechanical discs on there?

Yes on the Avids and yes, she is a kick. I think they named it the Big Dummy because as soon as you start riding it, that's what you're grinning like. :bike_rider:

I can honestly say that I have never seen it's equal. Impressive ride.

How's the overall dynamics? Must feel very strange at first.

It's mostly the weight that takes some getting used to. I have been riding a 37 pound mountain bike for the last 2 years so that kinda prepared me for the heft. You also learn to pedal smoothly when you have a load or it'll start swinging around. There is also the maneuvering when off the bike such as, going through doors and turning it in tight spaces. It's geared pretty low which helps on the uphills loaded but she is super solid going down hill and it carves like riding a long board.

Awesome! I had the chance to ride one shortly before I bought my LHT, very comfy! I hope to have one someday...

I got it from jensonusa.com for 1999.99 but they price matched directbicycleparts.com and it ended up being 1836.38. In the last week I have saved roughly 4 gallons of gas, the FJ60 gets about 14 miles to the gallon.

Very nice! I was considering one of these as my next bike, but I have a feeling that my wife is getting me another Surly product for our anniversary...

BTW, nice Ishmael quote in your sig.
