I would have thought for racks, solar panels etc... a flat roof would be an easier mounting surface.

Vintage 1978 Alaskan Will It Fit?

Looking at restoring a 1978 over the cab Alaskan. My question is will it actually fit on a newer 2000 Chevy pickup with a 48 inch Width between the wheel wells.Also will I run into any truck bed height or width issues? Thanks for any advice. Drew

I have not seen raising-roof designs supporting such very heavy loads up top.

My idea for that is a metal exo-frame that would work fine in utility mode without any "living pod" shell.

Then a very lightweight insulated "split pod" that slides within under the top rack

the top half being then attached from below to the load-bearing rack to be lifted from above.
