INTRODUCING THE GOAT SHELL!!! A lightweight hard sided popup up camper shell.

I would have thought for racks, solar panels etc... a flat roof would be an easier mounting surface.
 
Look at the mid 70s alaska camper, that is what you are trying to create

I have not seen raising-roof designs supporting such very heavy loads up top.

My idea for that is a metal exo-frame that would work fine in utility mode without any "living pod" shell.

Then a very lightweight insulated "split pod" that slides within under the top rack

the top half being then attached from below to the load-bearing rack to be lifted from above.
 
I stumbled onto this thread. Did GOAT campers ever see the light of day? I want a production version of this thing sitting on my bed rails:
 
I'm also interested to see if anything ever happened here. Originally started by saying there was some kind of contest to win so probably not...
