iPad install to my FJC

Second on that one...seems like either you or the Ipad wouldn't last through an airbag deployment.

The passenger side airbag on the FJC comes out of the top of the dash, not the vertical face in front of the passenger. It's hard to say for sure, but I think this location might be OK, particularly if the tablet is tucked back against the dash. I think the airbag might come out over the top of where he's got the tablet located.

thanks for the post very nice; i also read several reviews of the seat bolt type and actually seen one in person and it shakes alot. My friend who has it mounted in a dodge says it doesn't bother him because he only used the computer when stopped (its an actual laptop mount with the arm etc). Here is a not for you; my ipad2 also is WIFI only but I tether it thru my iphone and works great. let us know about the GPS units you are gonna try out.

I am debating drilling directly into the top of the stereo housing and top mount my ipad with the same arm (in a GX470)

Nice install, have you the CoPilot GPS app? I haven't used it much offroad but like that the maps are stored so you don't have to pre run the route.

Jordan,
Nice set up.
I hate drilling holes.
Mine ended up being a hybrid (Ram mount/cradle for the Ipad) attached to the stem of a Jenniko. Because as you mentioned, the RAM mount stem, definitely vibrates to much.
As stood the test of time off road.

As a rhetorical comment = just not sure how efficient the Ipad is for offroad TOPO (without assisted GPS/cell service)... but that is a whole different issue.

That's why I have the Bad Elf or Emprum gps puck attached to it. With the maps loaded ahead of time it's basically no different than a handheld gps unit. Those are simply preloaded with maps as well. Essentially with the gps puck the iPad is the same with a much better screen for clarity and zooming. I can also download 6 different styles of maps via apps. Once I get some real off road time using it I'll post up some thoughts.

I just thought of this but is there any concern over airbag deployment? :Wow1:

I thought about this and mentioned it in the write up. Another reason I went with a dash mount instead of the floor mount. With the arm flat against the dash the iPad will clear air bag deployment. The bag fires above the dash and down. It should be clear. Of course it's not a perfect system whenever you mount anything to a stock dash. I don't plan on keeping the iPad mounted unless I'm off road using it.

Did you jailbreak your iPhone or pay for the hotspot service?

Wow this is EXACTLY what I had planned for my Ipad to go in my Dodge. Just havent taken the time to pull the dash apart yet. Really looking forward to your opinions of the GPS pucks.

This is fantastic.
i like this mount and will be going for it later this year. Myself as i want a GPS i can use for other devices, i will be picking up a Dual XGPS150. It is a Bluetooth GPS that can be used with just about anything that has Bluetooth.

hello lost no I did not jail break my phone; I pay thru att for the tethering! Now I have the iphone 4s my friend has the old 3gs and it is jailbroken and then uses my-wifi. I was a bit skeptical about the tethering but it works great even at highway speed and way out ( I have only used it thru the north east section of usa) from nyc to dc and have had no issues. I'm gonna take a trip to moab this summer and will get some sort of back up b/c of the dead zones in that area of the usa.
