iPhone Armor!

Otter Box has developed an extremely ruggedized case for the iPhone 3G and 3GS.

I've had my phone for almost a month now and I must admit to babying it from any harm. I had found the Otter Box case on their website and I've been using thier Defender case for a little more than a week now.

It is a two part system using an impact resistant hard plastic case to encapsulate the phone and a rubber jacket to provide further protection and a grippy feel.

Here is a video on how it works: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=54cl...3g-3gs-defender-case/&feature=player_embedded

And a few pictures of mine:

All of the buttons and touch screen functions work perfectly. The Defender case is not waterproof but rather splashproof with rubber covers for all ports. I've taken it from sea level to 14,000 feet and exposed it to trail dust, rain and hail without hesitation. Just what I was looking for!

how much thickness does it add to the phone? any chance of a side by side pic of one with case and one without? just curious as my phone lives in my left pocket and the leather case i have now is starting to irritate me as to its thickness. but i think i could make that concession for a much better protected phone!

thanks for the tip!

With the case on it is just over a half inch thick.
I have been placing it in my pocket with no discomfort at all.

Note that it also comes with a belt holster but the top of it digs into my waist a bit.

The case also comes with a belt clip. I routinely put it in my pocket as well with no problems. With a 18 month old who like to play with it, I can tell you it handles drops pretty well :)

All of our service guys utilize the Otter Box with their iphones.. Proving to be quite popular here..

One complaint that was quickly realized, is that the port to plug in a power cord can't be one with 90* corners.. The only type that will fit have to have rounded edges, like the apple plugs.. So your cheapo cable from the truck stop or wal-mart probably won't work.. And seeing how the iphone sucks battery power at an alarming rate, chargers are a must.

An IPOD that survived being run over by a fully loaded expedition Land Cruiser. Now sporting Goodyear Wrangler tire tracks, still going strong having completed over 80,000km and a bad headache
No need for ruggerized IPOD cover

I've been very pleased with my new iphone cover. I've dropped it a couple times without a scratch. The knobby rubber cover grips everything. It holds well to a table or dash. The compromise is that it holds well to a pocket as well. That's a good thing that prevents it from ever falling lose, but it's a pain to extract sometimes.

I have the otter box defender for my iphone as well. I love it! The only fall back with it is that it will not fit into any docking stations.

I really like my Speck 'CandyShell' case for my iPhone, still very pocketable. I have the black/yellow version.
