Iran is fun!

Hi Guys,
I don't know why I didn't post earlier. Kristy and I are currently in Yazd, Iran, and it's a treat. We've spent the last 3 weeks overland from Baku in Azerbaijan and will end up in Dubai next week.

Iran is so not what Fox "News" would have you believe. The people here are wonderful (they don't like the government, which we can identify with , in fact, we've been invited into more private homes than on any other trip we've made. Very well educated, articulate and extremely interested in all things USA - they gravitate to Kristy (from Iowa) not me (from the North East of England). Probably now my favorite country, out of the 50 or so I've visited.

I've heard similar sentiments from other travelers....
Interesting how the news/governments can slant an entire nations perceptions....but that a different thread!

Everyone I've spoken to who has traveled there has nothing...I mean nothing, but good things to say about the people and how amazing it is!

I had the same experiences during my visit around 10 years ago, both in Tehran, you have to visit the market or main souk........miss the carpet museum....unless you really really like carpet..

also in Awas, here I also loved the market, with henna bearded desert arabs in black cloaks, hanging swords and the dutiful wife 10 paces behind loaded with bags.

The real only thing that bugged me was the lack of personal space when walking in a crowd....

I spent 2 months there doing some work on an oil and gas project.

To me it was very like Libya, with people always looking over their shoulders and really only talking openly when you were alone or in their houses.
