There is an old anology that is used in racing and everywhere else I bet....

You can chose any 2 of the three items below....but ONLY 2
Fast
Cheap
High Quality

If you want fast, high quality comm that works anywhere it won't be cheap.
If you want cheap, fast comm...it might not be high quality..
you see how this works :)

I've never heard this expressed in this way before, but it is probably true for just about any technology. Specifically with comms, I might slightly modify the three categories to: SPEED, COST, and COVERAGE.

I never said anything about fast and cheap. My comments were about the service plans. I understand that sat time is expensive and I have no problem paying good money for a good service. As with anything. The price will come down. I understand very well the relationship between value and cost, so does my wife! :)

My comment wasn't meant to be critical, so hopefully it wasn't taken that way. Even within satellite comms this paradigm exists when comparing certain platforms/networks to others. I understand and agree with your previous comments.

It's hard to say if satellite will ever be able to approach a price point similar to cellular simply because of the critical mass of volume necessary vs. the actual resources that would be required to support that volume. That said, with the launch of the GO, Iridium has for the first time offered an unlimited data plan and Inmarsat dramatically reduced BGAN airtime cost via the IsatHub, so these are trends that are moving in the right direction for the average consumer. Ultimately these are still tools that are mostly used for on-demand, critical communications.
