Is This the New Diesel Jeep Wrangler Being Tested in America?

Manufacturer Plates

Beyond the AEV Wheels... The vehicles also have Michigan Manufacturer Plates on the Diesels and look to be rolling down I-69 in MI. (by the billboards in the background)

Many of the AEV Jeeps have MI Manufacturer Plates on them in pics. I'm guessing AEV in MI, and not Chyrsler/Jeep in Toledo, OH...:jumping:

Just my $0.02...

Good observation. This begs the obvious question of what are AEV doing testing a pair of Euro spec diesel Wranglers?
I'm pretty sure they didn't need to bolt their wheels onto them and drive around to make sure they are OK, so maybe there is something else going on here?

They could just be testing for example their 2.5 suspension on the Euro spec, but how did they even get them?
When Dave of AEV wanted his own diesel Wrangler, he bought one in Germany, one in the US and swapped every single piece over. He was not able to "import" the German Wrangler as a drivable vehicle, so how are they doing this?
My guess is with help from Jeep. But why?

My guess is a diesel conversion like the Hemi conversions.

They just did a 3.3 turbo for a TJ Brute that went to trailsurfer here on this forum.

did someone say a diesel powered Jeep Wrangler in the US? lol

Hard to see, but the blue JK at the end of the line of rigs, is a diesel JK! Friend of mine owns it, here in the US.

On second thought...

The Michigan 'M' Plates could also be on company-owned Chrysler/Jeep Vehicles, on a sortie, from the Chrysler Tech Center in Auburn Hills, MI?

Just another angle to speculate on...

That is very likely. I see "M" plates all the time.

I saw a couple of J8 jeeps two winters ago at a gas station (OK, diesel). I looked inside one-pretty neat. I told the testers that Chrysler should build them for the US.

How did he manage that? Is it a euro Wrangler, or a conversion? What engine?

-Dan

Not sure. When I PM'd him for better pics, he said he sold it. He'll be in town next month for the Crawl4theCure (for the MS society) and I'm helping out as a trail guide, I'll get more info from him then. (He's working 7-12's right now)

All I know is that he got it through BOR. It very well could be a conversion, after Dan's crew gets done with a rig, it's hard to tell if it was factory or not.

Trying to find a better pic.

It's the blue JK:
