Issue w\ Roof Top tent: Floor caving?

I guess what really frustrates me Box is that I feel misled. I asked about this before I ordered a tent that cost as much as a used car. I was not informed that I would need a ruggedized if I wanted to avoid denting and I don't think it's reasonable to anyone to expect denting or caving as in this thread to be normal. I have thousands into my roof rack and had I been given honest info I likely would have just bought the ruggedized. I take care of my gear and am willing to pay for gear that lasts. I have no doubt as a tent it will work fine, but I did not want just a tent. I wanted quality that showed. That's why I chose Tepui over a generic model like the Smitty.

Thanks for the replies anyways.

While I may have bashed you in your other thread about your tent, I can understand where you are coming from in this post.

gseim,
I can see where you are coming from, I guess the only difference is that when I entered the market, I went to the NWOR and talked while a massive group of people that owned these tents, I discussed the good things and the bad things about each, and at the end of the day, I chose a TJM Yulara (Similar to the CVT and the Tepui) and on the first outing when the floor didn't seat in the groove properly, or the zipper broke on the cover, or the ladders little rubber feet caused a dent to form in the underside, I looked at each problem, and thought (how much does this affect me?) and I will say that I called the retailer I bought it from, and he had a replacement zipper in my hand the very next day. most of the rest of it came from me learning how the tent works, and how to properly open, close, and store the tent in the winter. has it been a steep leaving curve? yes, do the dents bug me? not really, both my truck and my tent have some abuse on it but it doesn't affect my liking my tent, and using it every chance I get.

Nothing is perfect. If I dent something from abusing it that's one thing. But like your car, if it dents from normal use it needs to be improved. Cards dent in accidents, not because you sat in them.

I have RV's and they are mostly made cheap. I have to fix things all the time. But if I buy a new RV and things start breaking I fully expect the maker to pay for those repairs and so does the rest of the industry.

But regarding the OP's thread. Their unit was caving from normal sleeping use. That's really not wear and tear, it's just weak design that needs to be improved. If you make a tent that cannot hold people without bending and caving then you need to make a tent better designed to hold people. These manufactures know this, they were just using the fact that people will tolerate and defend the failing to their advantage. It's a niche industry so they have gotten away with that until now but that needs to change.

So do these"ruggedized" versions with diamond plate honeycomb floors solve these :dented, tounge groove popping out, internal frame being high causing arch in mattress problems? I don't know if i could stand having a high spot in the middle of my back while trying to sleep

It looks to me like versions with diamond plate it's not a problem with. I can't find any reports of denting. The ruggedized is also heaver duty in other area, but a real weak spot in all of these seems to be the floors.

Honestly maybe other cheaper tents have the problem less too. All they would have to do is have better structure inside or use a material that has more flex. I have seen some tents that said the floor was a plastic, since that would not hold a dent it might help with the problem. We could use more brand reports from other users.

Ive never had an issue with an Eezi-Awn denting, and based on my experience with the ruggedized Tepuis I wouldn't think they would dent, but I cant speak from experience there. I never stood on the tepui
