Jack was being kind about the Skamper (which, to be fair, was never designed for the full-time backroad use he experiences). He showed me the crossbraced steel superstructure he had a welder fabricate to try to keep the thing box-shaped rather than trapezoidal. He had the Skamper on a full-size Dodge, the bed of which started tearing at the corners. Dodge tried to deny the warranty, saying the truck was "not made to haul a camper." They eventually relented.

Thanks for posting. I haven't thought about Jack in a few years. His 4x5 (camera) book is one of the nicest on the subject of large format photography.
