I've seen several for sale off and on in the Austin area over the past couple of years. A friend of mine in Vernon had one while we were in high school. He's Brian of Brian's Tires on the expressway going through town. If you're over that way stop in and tell him Darin says hi.
We had alot of fun in his old Commando.

I've probably seen that place more than once, considering the numerous times I've been through there. I'll keep that in mind next time! :sombrero:

I almost want to go buy this thing, and would if I had a place to put it. Figured the next best thing would be to post it here.

"rare"...

"rare" is one of the highly subjective terms that gets tossed out there a great deal when selling stuff...esp. vehicles!
That being said...this Commando (Jeepster Commando/C101) is kind of run-of-the-mill.?. The price is about right on, if not slightly lower than some in this condition? The big killer is rust. If it has a bunch then its value is low...VERY low.
But they are good little Hee...er, Jeeps. The Buick (factory jeep) 225 "Dauntless" V6 is a peppy little engine. The rest of the drivetrain is pure old school technology. Much should be considered mandatory to be upgraded before street use today. Steering and brakes are the biggest issues. But like all jeeps, they take well to modifications. Much can be sourced used or aftermarket and a person can build a sharp camping/wheeling rig for cheap.
Anyone more interested in these can check out the JCCA site. Lots of info there on these odd balls of jeep-dom.

I bet that it is at that place just west of Henrietta close to Coyote Creek. That guy is always dragging something up.

Just guessing but that one is probably good for nothing more than is being described - a hunting vehicle.

I have personal experience with Jeepster Commandos, and there are better examples out there that could be acquired for not necessarily a lot of money. The hard top comes off but is a load of steel and glass. Neat old school trucks but prone to rust in the floorboards and rockers. They're considered an ugly-duckling of the Jeep line by some, but have cult status with others.

Seeing that one sitting in a field makes me picture Fred Flintstone driving it, feet on the ground through the rusted-out floor.
