Jeep decisions

Well my overheating temp issue got significantly worse on the trip to Calgary. However it's still only intermittent (but when it's bad, it won't cool below 230 (or higher)). Phoned my dealer and spoke to the mechanic... blamed the tires and the fact I'm pulling a trailer... but completely ignored the fact I pulled the same trailer last summer one this highway (without this issue) and the fact that the issue is intermittent. Anyway, Jeep goes into the shop in Edmonton on Monday, and I'm not leaving here with that JK unless it's fixed. If they can't fix it, I'll take the loss, and leave with something else. So will see what happens next week. Good news I have a free place to stay while it's being sorted out.

Your exprience is a huge reason my Jeep will remain stock until the expiration of my warranty...

When you mention the temperature as being at 247 degrees, etc, are you using some sort of add-on temp gauge to see the actual engine coolant temp (ECT) as reported by the ECM/PCM?

I use a Aeroforce Gauge, ECT is one of the parameters it will monitor. Even when towing a 2000+ trailer, I never see ECT above 200.

Septu, I'm a Canuck too, and there is an alternative approach to your dispute - CAMVAP, Canadian Motor Vehicle Arbitration Plan. It's set up to handle this kind of dispute.

My father had issues with premature brake rotor wear on a GM product, which GM blamed on his driving style - 4 complete brake jobs before the car was 2 years old. He took it to CAMVAP and they found in his favour, requiring GM to pay him a complete refund of the original purchase price of his car, even though it was 2 years old at the time of the decision.

While actual mileage may vary, I was thoroughly impressed with the process and outcome. GM paid him the amount in 2 weeks of the decision.

The website is http://www.camvap.ca/arbitration/agreement/ - it can't hurt.

I'm using a scanguage2. However the dummy gauge on the dash matches the digital one (one goes up, so does the other, same when they go down).

I'll look into the camvap. Jeep has been into the shop 6 or 7 times now. They've replaced the thermostate, the fan module (which I had to pay for, or be stuck in Prince George for 4-6 days) pulled the cover off the engine to look at things, blamed my tires, removed my front grill guard (made a small impact - but its still a brutal issue), and blamed the fact that I'm pulling a trailer (all of 1300 lbs) again. They can't touch the water pump as apparently those are all on backorder for the 3.6s.

So far it's interrupted 2 vacations with unscheduled trips to the dealer which extended stays and cut short activities.

I paid 42k for this (or there abouts). Which while expensive is fine as long as the damn thing works correctly. Jeep goes back into the shop Monday (left the trailer on this time). But I really don't care what they replace... but it's getting to the point where they'd better start replacing ****.

Read the CAMVAP doc's. Two issues. If they buy it out I lose between 7-12k (39,000 kms in 18 mths - 3 trips south for 20k). If I fight to have them fix it... they have been trying to find the issue and haven't been successful... so how do they fix it? Secondly, they (Chrysler) havn't decided if there is an issue. And if there is, that it's not caused by my 33" tires (the head mechanic here has blamed this multiple times).

Just curious, could you find a set of factory sized tires and put those on and see if it makes a difference just to appease the mechanic?
(apologies in advance if you did that already and I missed it in the thread)
Best of luck man.

A buddy has them so that is an option. Biggest issue is that we don't have squat for hills around here. SO it's quite possible that the issue would not be as noticeable with a switch. Which means that dodge would then say it's proof the tires are the issue.

Dodge is going to try replacing the temp sensor... should have that in sometime in the next couple weeks.
