Jeep JK Unlimited Mojave special edition

I agree with others, all these "special editions" are a waste to us but they seem to work. My dad was telling me about this yesterday actually and thought it was so cool. He doesn't know much about Jeeps so he doesn't realize it is a stock Jeep with some better tires and some appearance stuff. A guy at work just bought a Mountain (cant remember the rest of it) edition Jeep that was out before the Black Ops. I didn't have the heart to tell him it was stock with Rubicon wheel/tires and some stickers and a stitched seat.

Seems like Jeep has blown another great opportunity to jump start sales of off-road vehicles...Do they ever read a forum or listen to reviews in the marketplace ?

If they paid any attention to the general consensus that the JK is extremely underpowered, they would have saved all that R&D on stickers, and focus group about interior colors, and dropped a 6.4L Hemi in the thing - call it the 2012 Jeep Wrangler Mojave SRT8 - and every person on the fence about buying a remodeled, yet still gutless JK would be in line at the dealer to pre-order tomorrow.

There is a reason US car makers are having a difficult time retaining old customers and attracting new ones - it is their almost arrogant inability to give people what they really want, and instead try to get them to buy what they'd rather sell...

Chrysler (I guess I should say Fiat...) - Good luck with your hi-performance sticker package.... :Wow1:

Write a letter to Chrysler yourself and express your concerns to them. In a world were fuel prices are skyrocketing it seems to be a real gamble to ask an auto manufacturer to invest in a diesel or large V-8 when these produces already exist built by other manufactuers, show sluggish sells. (ie: Fords/Cheys/Toyotas) It seems paramount that all the automobile manufacturers prepare for either hybrid or alternative fuel (hydrogen) or all electric platforms. Fuel is over $4.00/gallon and diesel is over $5.00/now and futures appear to be gloomer for petroleum. We all should be voicing our concerns about retro-fit kits for our JK's to go to electric/hydrogen fuel cell or some alternative fuel source. Otherwise prepare to purchase another auto all together as fuel goes higher and higher. Going price for the Nissan Leaf and the Chevy Volt is just about $40K a copy. Mitz has an all electric for $26K!

Don't know about an electric Jeep, but I would bet they will be looking at turbocharging the six before a V8 would become a reality. If Ford's EcoBoost 6 (365hp/420lb-ft) turns out anywhere near what they claimed after the thrashings they put it through, then a nice single or dual turbo can get all the extra horsepower people are clamoring for and still get good gas mileage.

But as a 4banger owner for 10 years I'd have to say, Jeeps are supposed to be slow, gives you time to see life's scenery:ylsmoke:

It's a Jeep not a Jag

Excellent point. We all ought to slow-down and smell the roses.

I have the 2.4L 4cyl SE with 6 spd and don't lack for speed with 147 bhp. Hey, I can't get tickets with it. I've got a motorcycle for speed. :bike_rider:

I'm finding the configuration works for my increasing age. I'm just not in any hurry and 90-100 kph on the highway provides a significant fuel savings vs. 120 kph that most traffic is doing. I don't like to "block" a lane though so often take the secondary highway, as I say, in no particular hurry.

This said, my next vehicle will be a diesel I can sleep in - if somebody offers it.

New engines/drivetrains take a little time and a LOT of money. Fiatsler is working their way out of bankruptcy and has actually done a fairly good (IMO) job of refreshing their lineup in a very short time. They say they have much more across their entire lineup to be revealed between now nad 2014 MY.

I think the perceived need for more power entirely misses the point. Slow and steady works for me, and doesn't break as much stuff inside or outside the vehicle.

I like the cosmetics and it will probably help sell a few.

Slow and steady is the way. the 4.0 in the LJ with steel armor and 35's with the stock 3.73 gears makes you enjoy that speed. I'll regear soon but still slow and steady. I have always said I would take a diesel. I could care less about having 3-400 HP in my brick, torque is great though. Diesel cost more but usually gets better MPG and the engines seem to last longer when taken care of.

OK, I'm not at all a big fan of these special editions, but I really like this one.

Big part of it is production capacity for the Pentastar engine at Chrysler and at suppliers. According to a Chrysler engineer I talked to, the Pentastar engine will be the Chrysler V6 used across the board, replacing pretty much all V6 engines. Obviously they need to stagger the change over for avoiding part and engine shortages until capacity is fully built up. The JK is selling very well even with the old V6 and therefore is unluckily low on the priority list for the new engine. If Chrysler can boost JK sales with some fancy stickers, slow(er) selling models needing the new engine to improve sales will have priority, regardless how much we scream on this portal. Once Pentastar production capacity is plentiful, the JK will get the Pentastar too because reducing the number of different engines will represent a cost saving for Chrysler. It's all the power of economics.

I fully agree that Fiat/Chrysler has done an excellent job refreshing and improving their line-up. With Sergio Marchionne, Chrysler has finally again a true car-guy on top and not some bean-counter investment banker dude.

JK will have the Pentastar in 2012 from what I heard from multiple sources at EJS this year.

While I think the Pentastar might make a decent engine for the 2-door, the 4-door needs the 5.7 VVT, that would be a good option in the 2-door as well.

All this doesn't matter because the diesel would be even better :)

The new diesel engines won't run on mexico and central america quality fuel though....so that kinda blows the expedition thing.

Give me the J8...

I hope you are right and it is model year, not calendar year; my sources state that the 2013 model year, which will go on sale in 2012, will get the Pentastar.

I like the colors, but I agree. I don't think that the biggest and baddest engine would even be necessary. One of the 4.7L truck V8's would pull one around fine and be a vast improvement over the V6 currently in there. Maybe a SRT-8 with the big Hemi, but it'd be a niche-market kinda thing. I see WAY more V6 Challengers and Camaros than I do the V8. But if you look at the ZJ Grand Cherokee, you see 5.2L (318) versions most often. The 4.0L I6 and 5.9L (360) were both available (5.9L only a few years) but the small V8 was most popular, and a good seller for them. I think they could see the same success with the 4.7L in the JKUs with the 5.7L or 6.4L Hemi offered in the Rubicons and a possible SRT8 version.

But the sticker package isn't much different from the Sahara Wranglers in the 90's. :coffee:
