Jeep JK Unlimited

lots of wind noise? Yes at first, then I added the wind deflector I didnt instal at first. Then I had a crazy flapping of the soft top so I did the "noodle mod" (cut a pool noodle in half, paint black, and zip tie under the rack) and now I have zero noise. Sounds like a stock hard top.

how did it effect mpg? Yes, but very little. after the wind delector (only pictured in the bottom camping pic), I got a mpg back or so. But overall, nothing to bad.

can u get the top off with the rack? Defenetly, and you can do it alone. Il post a pic in a sec if I can find it.

Yes, after the VERY EASY noodle mod (details of it on jkforum) there is literally zero noise. Its like your back without a rack on top. The wind deflector gets rid of the wind noise, but it creats a very bad flapping. So noodle up! Heres the rack tilted up for easy soft top drop. My rack has the extension in the front so its heavier in the front and I still do it alone with no problem. Again, no wind deflector pictured. It was still new and I didnt install it yet....

Heres a beach picture with the wind deflector on. Its very low profile.

Pretty much. Did it all alone except for the end I used my dad to help with the lifting of that bad boy up to the roof. Its defenetly do-able for the average guy, but the directions are SUPER in depth. To the point where they almost make it harder than it needs to be.

Hey guys, I've got a 2007 Jeep JK Unlimited 4x4 and was wondering what some of you would do to it to make it more expedition ready??

Well, you might not like this answer but ... nothing really. Depending in what tires your JK currently has, you might want to invest in some AT tires or a mild MT. The only mods I have is a 2.5" spacer lift, 255/80-17 BFG MT km2 tires (after my stock tires wore out). I used to have a rack, but did not like it due to wind noise. For camping, I'm using my home brew ute trailer, mainly out of convenience because I have it rather than necessity.

i know rovers and the like are alot better for this type of stuff but alot of them aren't as readily available here in the states.

Says who? I would contest this. Horses for courses. I had a Defender 110 back in Europe. Interior space is bigger than in the JKU, but the Jeep is way more agile. I also have to say - and this is from personal experience of having 3 Rovers and a total of 6 Jeeps in the extended family - that for us the Jeeps have been significantly more reliable. The Defender does have a special character though and it is not until recently that I have a JKU Rubi that I don't miss my Landy anymore.

and i also have kind of a newbie question...when choosing fog lights, what reasons do people have for choosing the different colors? some have really yellow ones and some have really blue? i know theres got to be a reason for the colors, but im not sure what?

As it was said before, yellow lights give you better contrast in white conditions like fog or snow. Blue lights are IMHO a pure fashion statement and have no real measurable advantage, especially in fog; I had some blueish lights in the past and did not like them.

I would suggest you sign up for the eastern EXPO planned for june 9-12 up by Asheville, NC before you start dumping money into your JKU.

Excellent suggestion :D

Here is mine FWIW:
07 Jk with 3" Teraflex lift (if I were to do it again, I would go full 8 adjustable short arms) but stay well under 3".
35" Goodyear MTR with Kevlars (good tires)
LOD front bumper (mid width) definitely a good buy.
WARN 9500 HS winch (suggest)
Insulated hard top (awesome for winter as well as summer)
Rear add a trunk - a must for expo type runs
Rear Homemade bumper
3 sets of HID's (blueish color) love them and will never go back to regular halogen. Just IMHO
AEV snorkel
And a trailer (CDN m101)

very cool, where did u order yours from? I bought it through Alpha Expedition. I have the quick discos, rear ladder, front rack extension, and wind deflector.

what kinda weight can u throw up there? and it has a ladder on back, no? The most weight Ive had in my tent and awning which I would guess to be about 150-170lbs. And I do have the ladder. Ill probably get the dual ladder setup soon, just because it looks bad ***.

Side note- Others have mentioned it too, but I have the Tuffy security deck in my Jeep. It creats a secure "trunk" for the Jeep. Its nice to be able to have a soft top and not worry about having your stuff stolen, and it is nice for the extra storage it creats.

I like the trailier setup. It would be nice to be able to just leave all your camping crap loaded all the time, and be able to leave your camp site setup. I just didnt want to pull a trailer, or invest the money for the setup. Plus I love the Gobi rack. I think it looks awesome.

Since it sounds like you already have the Teraflex 2.5 coil lift, I'll say this from my own experience, I have a Jk Rubi 4dr, it's a good expedition lift.

If you can do the trails and adventures with a stock suspension then stay stock. But in "most" cases you will want some mild lifting. Running a good 285/75 33' tire seems to be a popular choice as well as 255/80 series tire.
I personally have 35's.. in the Cooper STT Mud Terrains. I like the Good year MTr's and BFG AT's too. But if you "might" run into any of that Georgia clay, it will make any all terrain tire pretty much useless out there. Otherwise, I think the AT's are a wise choice. I had BFG AT's on my old 2006 Rubi LJ Unlimited and it was a serious struggle to get to some remote camping spots with the mud and rain we have up here in the PNW. Otherwise, I'd go AT's all the way.. Good luck.

Just out of curiosity: Did you air down? I had BFG AT on my 2001 Grand Cherokee with 3.5" lift and the tires surprised me more than once performing better in mud than what I expected when aired down to about 20psi. I always run pretty narrow tires though which appear to do better in non-bottom-less mud (less than about 1 foot deep).

Good point..lol because I was not aired down above. Those are just some rock out croppings along the beach and a short little play area so I decided not to air down.. With my LJ those BFG AT's I had to be down in the 11-13psi range which can get dicey at times, And yes as I lost traction the tire bead spun on the rim as it moved forward slightly.. So certain situations do call for airing down on the trails, good point.. here's a snapshot of that nasty trail run. And I needed both lockers to get through it, and it took awhile. I would have went through this area a lot easier with some good MT tires, like everyone else had that day.:smiley_drive: btw, that was a great jeep as well.

I love the half doors. That looks awesome.
Thanks..:safari-rig: It took me awhile to find a half door 4dr Rubi.
I plan on doing more expedition/camping trips moving forward.. So hence a four door. The 04-06 LJ I still think is one of the best Wrangler platforms out there today. But access inside and storage with a Jk Wrangler 4dr is an upgrade that I felt as an older gentlemen would fit my outdoor camping activities better. IMHO, A+ for both units.. lol, Wished, I could afford both.
