Jeep on long trips.....

I have a 2009 JK four door and have literally driven it coast to coast, from Northern CA to Jersey. I have also taken it on multiple long journeys, and have had no problems at all. I love mine, and you should like the 14 even better with the Pentastar engine and new tranny.

How is your 09 doing with oil? Mine thinks it is yummy and have to add about a quart every so often. No leaks or smoke to be found, and have even changed the PCV 3x just to make sure that is not it. (Sorry to jack the thread). I love my jeep no matter how long the drive. Hope that helps.

Just back from driving the jeep

Have to say it did better in the highway than I thought!

With seats folded it had decent cargo room.

All is left now is to order it!

Thanks for the insights.

Post a pic when it gets in. I recently got some Trek Armor seat covers from a member on the forum...Great investment, should have had them from day one. Well worth the money.

I had a jku rubi. 6speed manual with newere engine. Standard highway driving range was about 300 miles. It was comfortable. A little loud, but it just depends on your reference. I drove once a week from MI to KY (384mi). Never an issue, crept the mpg.

We have a '03 TJ Rubicon that we have taken from Michigan to New Orleans several times, Michigan to Florida Several times and I cannot tell you the trips from MI to TN, KY, and NC. I am a 5'10", 255 lb. 52 year old. A new Jeep would be like flying first class!

I had a 99 Silverado 1500 prior to my JKUR. I must say that while the jeep is OK for long trips, my back does suffer a bit after a few hours. The Silverado on the other hand was the most comfortable vehicle I've ever driven. I felt great even after 10-12 hours on the road.
I did not buy the jeep for long haul trips though. ;)
I have to agree. My jeep is night and day difference than the way my '96 Silverado drove (best truck I've ever owned). However, I didn't buy my jeep to replace my truck or to drive like my truck. I bought my jeep cause I wanted a jeep and everything that goes with it. Since than I've added a lift and 35" tires and I rarely drive on the highway. If we go on an outing than the drive is part of the jeep experience. If I have to make a 3 hour + highway drive for work than I'll drive my wife's Grand Cherokee.

What is wrong with a TJ?

It's a pretty short wheel base for starters (assuming it's not the unlimited). Which means you'll feel every damn bump a lot more than you would in a truck or a JKU. And unless one spent the money on a quality lift, odds are the ride won't be the best.
