Jeep True North concept vehicle

This is a true as it gets. If Jeep weren't cranking out some small, fuel concious suv's.....they would die, sad but true. As far as the Compass goes, while I don't like them much either, I'd drive this particular one with no shame.

I respectfully disagree. I think there is enough corporate co-dependency that Jeep could just build JEEPS and allow these spin off...things to fund the coffers without tarnishing the heritage and reputation of what made a jeep a Jeep. Just my humble opinion and means nothing in the great scheme of things. :)

I've wondered about that... Do the CAFE numbers come from Chrysler's production as a whole or from each brand individually?

My wife and I looked at the new Compass when they came out. I felt the styling from the front is very nice but it fell flat by the time you got to the back of the vehicle. We ended up buying a Honda Element due to the massive gobs of room and Honda's reliability.

its cool, or tasteful if that sounds better. but i'll go the way of the JK if the aftermarket picks up.

I like it. I considered getting a patriot, but it was a little less capable than I wanted. When I had my TJ I would have hated on a Liberty...now I know it will go pretty much everywhere my TJ went (05 2.4l with open diffs and a/t tires). It holds alot more than my TJ and tows more. I think this little true north compass would be a decent softroader.

I like the True North version. It looks like the perfect wife-mobile to me. We will have to cruise down to the local Jeep dealer and see if she likes the way the standard version drives.

I like it. The grill makes is look like a mini WJ!

I drive a '07 Patriot for my daily driver and like it very much. While the interior has quite a bit of plastic, it wears well. The interior cargo space is great, I love how the passenger front seat folds down so you can load 2X4's from the lumber yard. Good gas mileage with the 2.4L and a 5-speed, typically 26mpg mixed use. I've got close to 30mpg on some longer road trips.

The standard version isnt going to drive like one with a lift and over-sized tires most likely. It might actually ride a little better...

and dont forget, this is a CONCEPT...its not like a AEV Wrangler you can buy from the dealership

Saw the True North while visiting the Chicago Auto Show yesterday. It really is a nice looking little Jeep. My wife and I got some funny looks cause we both got under it to check things out. (She did it first, to look at the engine skid.)

While I'm not a huge fan of spacer lifts, it appears to do the job. I'd be looking for a way to do a heavier spring lift with longer travel shocks though. Everything that I'd want a skid plate on was covered. Not sure if there was a skid over the muffler or if the muffler is built like one, but it seemed substantial. The normal Compasses come with a full size spare, not sure if the larger tires used on the True North allow for that. The vehicle was locked, so we could only peer in the windows, but we sat in a regular Compass and it seemed comfortable enough.

If not already enamored with our current vehicles, I could see driving one of these.

Yeah, she's great. Her Liberty turned her into a gear head. Does her own tune ups and brakes, helps when we work on her suspension.

I was the auto show today and while cramming my way through the Jeep area, I was very disappointed to not see a AEV equipped JK there. Chrysler seemed to hit pretty hard on the aftermarket stuff at the show (more-so than other auto makers) ...and not one thing out of the JK aftermarket catalog :( That said, they are doing great with sales and not doing it by selling oversized power wheels like the other auto makers.

My photos will be online tomorrow.

Confused a bit about this statement. I would reckon that the JK has more aftermarket support than any vehicle currently in production and possibly ever made. Just available front bumpers adds up to more total products than are offered for many other popular vehicles. You could nearly build a JK without actually owning a JK.
