Jeep/Willys trailers question

Hi,

Can anyone recommend a good resource for learning about the various Jeep/Willys military or civilian trailers? I am interested in getting a small trailer to use with my Cherokee and I like the idea of the small Jeep trailers. I notice that some don't have a tailgate and some do. I want to know if that is factory or not and what to look for when shopping for one of these.
For example, I found one locally that is described as a Willys model "S" trailer and has a tailgate.

EDIT: My research indicates the trailer I am looking at might be a Spen Model S. It has a short tailgate that doesn't come all the way up to the height of the side of the trailer. Seller says the tailgate is factory. I don't really care if it's a Jeep trailer or a "clone." Still seeking info.

Thanks in advance!

There were several different trailers of this type. Spen was one of them.

Look here: http://www.earlycj5.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=29

If you want a military 1/4 ton trailer, likely the easiest to source is a M416. These can still be had surplus.

The WWII era trailers are typically called Bantam trailers, and were also produced for civilian use after the war. The civi trailers had a tailgate, mil trailers did not.

Thanks

These two forums are cool! Now I am going crazy trying to find one! Definitely want a tailgate so I guess I want a civilian trailer. :)

I pull a 1947 Bantam BT3C behind my 2003 grand Cherokee that's equipped with an rtt and some other goodies... It does great and is very similar to that Spen you speak of.

I have a civilian bantam with alot of rust in Ohio if your interested. I have collected some parts for this build but can't find the time.

Ledsled01: Ohio is too far...

...but based on my research if you posted it up here in the trailer section you wouldn't have much trouble selling it.

After ALOT of reading I am thinking I might have something built. It will be a longer process but I can buy the parts bit by bit and stretch my budget. The trailers in my budget are mostly pretty beat and I like originality and custom stuff.

Thanks everyone for the good info to my question!

I love the old bantam trailers!

I also would love to have an old bantam trailer. I would love to rebuild one to go with my old flattie.
